Julia arrives at the old house, and Barnabas tells her that he sent Willie to Lang's house to get his journals. Julia says she doesn't know if she can follow through with the experiment. He says they don't need to think about it until Adam releases Vicki, and Julia confirms that he did, last night. He asks where she was, and Julia says that all she remembers is being at the old house to see him. Barnabas realizes that this means they must create a mate for Adam. Julia says she doesn't know if she can go through with the madness, and Barnabas reminds her that Vicki and every member of the Collins family will die if they don't. She agrees to go through with it, albeit reluctantly.

Willie returns with Lang's books. Barnabas tells Willie Vicki was returned to Collinwood last night, and they need his help with the experiment. He says what they need isn't complicated, just unpleasant. Barnabas tells him that he will rob graves to get dead bodies. Willie says he won't do it, and Barnabas reminds him that he has no choice.

Willie asks if they'd send him back to Windcliff, and Julia says she'll have him committed permanently. He says go ahead, as he'd rather do that than mess around with dead people. He says he's done a lot for Barnabas, but now he's asking too much.

Julia tells Barnabas she's going downstairs to review Lang's journals when there's a knock at the door. Joe is there to see him, and he thanks him and Willie for finding him and getting him to the hospital. He tells Barnabas that if he or Willie need anything, they should just ask him. Joe then asks if Barnabas knows Nicholas Blair. Barnabas says he's not sure why Blair didn't leave town when Cassandra left. Joe says he and Blair didn't hit it off, and yet this morning he got an invitation to see him tonight at 7pm. Barnabas asks him to stop by after he meets with Blair, as he's also curious about him.

Julia is sorting Lang's journals when Willie comes downstairs. He asks if she's going to go through with it, and she says she must. He's disgusted by the thought of putting dead bodies together. Julia says she's already agreed to help Barnabas. Willie says that he's going to have to leave. He says he can't be any part of this. She accepts that, saying she won't send him to Windcliff. She asks where he'll go, and he says he doesn't know, but he can't watch the experiment happen.

Joe tells Barnabas he'll stop by around 8pm, when Willie comes upstairs. Joe thanks Willie for getting him to the hospital, and apologizes for starting the fight with Willie. Willie reluctantly shakes his hand, and Joe leaves.

Willie tells Barnabas they should have left Joe to die. Willie tells Barnabas that he's leaving. Barnabas says he cannot, and Willie counters that Julia said she wouldn't send him back. Barnabas asks if Willie thought about what happened to Maggie if he left. He suggests that if Adam found out Willie wouldn't help with the experiment, he might harm her just as he threatened to kill Vicki. Willie is upset that his leaving might put Maggie in danger. Julia comes upstairs and says she found the journal on the initial part of the experiment, but they need a cadaver. Barnabas asks Willie if he will help them, in order to protect Maggie, and he agrees to.

Joe stops by Blair's house, where Angelique opens the door. He asks if Blair lives there, and she tells him to come in quickly. She says she knew Blair had sent for Joe, and he will be back shortly. She says she's supposed to be Blair's secretary, but she's not really. She asks if she can trust him, and then says she needs his help. He asks how, and she says she needs help escaping from Blair. Joe asks why she doesn't just call the police. She says she can't, and he offers to take her to the sheriff.

She says Blair will try to harm her, and asks if Joe will protect her. He says he will, if it comes to that. She starts to cry, and he says Blair won't harm her. She asks if she can put her head on his shoulder, and he allows it. He tells her she'll be alright, and she takes a bite out of his neck.

Our thoughts

John: Just what is Barnabas thinking when he suggests that getting dead bodies isn't complicated?

Christine: Consider his background. He's been responsible for quite a few dead bodies, after all.

John: I'm sorry, but Willie was too easily duped by Barnabas' "what about Maggie" speech. Not once did he ask how Adam would know that a) he wouldn't assist with the experiment, or b) that he had feelings for Maggie. If he had, Barnabas would have had to take credit for providing that info, which would put he and Barnabas back into an adversarial relationship, even if he agreed to help. Instead, he just goes with the scenario Barnabas laid out, and agrees to help because he thinks the risk is already present, when it clearly is not.

Christine: I have to wonder what keeps Willie at the Old House. Is Barnabas paying him a wage now that he's no longer holding him with his vampire control, or is he held in servitude, with the threat that he'll be declared insane and sent back to Windcliff? One might think he's staying in hopes of making his romantic fantasy with Maggie Evans come true, but I wonder if it's his love for Barnabas that prevents him from leaving. Whatever the reason, it may not be that he was easily duped, but was looking for an excuse not to leave.

John: Angelique plays the woe-is-me card, and Joe falls for it hook, line and sinker! He's going to have a hard time explaining that hickey to Maggie. I hope for his sake that he does go see Barnabas first, because I can't wait to see the look on Barnabas' face when Joe explains that the source of his neck wound is the attractive blonde Nicholas Blair is keeping hostage—Angelique!

Christine: I hope he's able to make it back to Barnabas. If not, at least Barnabas will know where to go looking for him, in which case, he may meet up with vampire Angelique himself! Will Joe leave Maggie to hook up with Angelique? Clearly some exciting possibilities are in store next week.
