Dark Shadows Episode 1140 11/6/70

You can stream today's episode free on TubiTV

Angelique comes downstairs and introduces herself to Gerard. He looks at her, touches his forehead, and says that she was once named Miranda. She asks why he said that. He says he doesn't know. She asks who he is, and he tells her he's a friend of Quentin's that lives at Rose Cottage. He apologizes for disturbing her and leaves.

Angelique freaks out that someone called her Miranda for the first time in 150 years. She flashes back to being accused of doing Satan's bidding, and not bearing witness against Judah Zachery. She explains that she's afraid to speak of him to a tribunal. Amadeus Collins assures her that God will forgive her sins, and she will be immune from persecution if she helps them prosecute Zachery. She says she wants to do what's right, but even if she tries, she won't be able to. Amadeus says Zachery will not be allowed to look her in the eyes during the tribunal. She agrees to stand with God against Judah Zachery.

She then flashes forward to the tribunal, where Zachery is wearing a mask over his eyes, and charged with witchcraft. Miranda testifies against him. She tells how he used witchcraft to burn an enemy and his family. In a sudden outburst, Zachery calls her a liar. Amadeus declares him guilty of 109 counts, and sentences him to death. Zachery tells him that they cannot kill him, and he will have his revenge. He reaches up and removes his mask. He tells Amadeus that he and his descendants will regret this day. Back in 1840, Angelique wonders why Gerard called her Miranda.

Gerard wonders why he called Angelique Miranda, and wonders who she really is. He walks over to Zachery's head and asks him why he doesn't tell him the answer.

Quentin finds Angelique in the drawing room. She mentions having met Gerard, and asks if he has psychic powers. Quentin says he probably wants everyone to believe that. Daniel comes in and asks Quentin if he heard about Roxanne. He says her death reminds him of those he remembers as a boy in 1979. He asks Barnabas' wife if she remembers, and Quentin asks how Valerie would know anything about his childhood. Daniel apologizes for what he thinks must have been a mistake. Daniel leaves, and when Quentin goes to get a drink, he finds another note from Joanna. He asks Valerie if anyone had been in the drawing room. She says just he and Daniel, and Gerard was there when she first arrived. He excuses himself.

Gerard asks Zachery's head what it's doing to him. He then starts to laugh. He realizes he's the only one in the room with a functioning mind. He tells the head that whatever powers it has will soon be his, and Judah will do his bidding.

Quentin goes to the tree to find Joanna. He finds Daphne, and asks her what she's doing there. She asks him if she's done something wrong, and he explains that he thought she was someone else. She asks if he thought she was Joanna. He says yes, but she's not Joanna. He apologizes for getting angry. He points out that it's strange that she would arrive at that spot by accident. He asks her if she's happy at Collinwood. She says most of the time, and he asks what she means. She says that Mrs. Collins seems to resent her, and he tells her to let him know if she gives her any problems. He leaves her, and she pulls the gun from her purse.

Gerard sleeps and dreams. He hears a voice calling him. It says he will find out what is to happen. He walks to the covered case where the head is, and inside, he sees his own head, and Zachery outside, looking at him. Zachery says that he is to become Gerard, and Gerard will become nothing. Gerard wakes up, upset by his bad dream. He sees the covered case, and walks to it.

Our thoughts:

John: Did anyone else think that Miranda might actually be the one who taught Zachery witchcraft, as opposed to her being his unwitting disciple.

Christine: I'm not sure about that with all the talk of Judah being Satan's son and all powerful. It is interesting to consider that Angelique had a history before becoming Angelique and it may explain how she ended up in Martinique with a new name. It should be fun to see a confrontation between these two, and I wonder how Judah might exact revenge for her betrayal.

John: What's the point of having a mask on Zachery during the tribunal if he was able to reach up and remove it on his own? And if he could do so, why not remove it during Miranda's testimony?

Christine: I was under the impression that he was shackled to the railing, though it does appear that he's shackled to a long chain. It seemed that right before he removed the mask, his hand suddenly became free. While it's not entirely convincing, I think the fact that he couldn't remove the mask sooner was supposed to convince us that he was restrained, and it was only through his supreme Satanic power that he was able to free himself from his restraints.

John: While I like disembodied head Zachery, and the fact that he has ties back to the Collins family that explain his wanting revenge, we find ourselves in another one of those questionable alternate time sequences where we can't help but ask how come the entire Collins clan wouldn't be aware of the curse the warlock Judah Zachery had put on the family back in 1840?

Christine: It could be because he didn't go on killing Collins family members, so the family may have assumed he was no longer a threat and there was no need to pass down the information. It seems that Julia and Barnabas may have already lost the opportunity to change events leading to the destruction of Collinwood in 1970 if Judah claims possession of Gerard's body.

Dark Shadows Episode 1138 11/4/70

You can stream today's episode free on TubiTV

Gerard enters the secret passage in the graveyard and examines Zachery's body, and watches as lightning strikes and the body begins to convulse. He removes the mask and smiles. He doesn't see Zachery's eyes open, but he does notice when he sits up and gets of the operating table. Gerard knocks over a lamp, starting a fire. Zachery approaches him, arms outstretched. He then starts to cough. Gerard manages to escape, leaving the body in the burning room beneath the cemetery

Barnabas tells Julia that Leticia said Zachery is dead. Julia says she can save him.

Zachery is surrounded by fire. He finds the mask and puts it on.

Julia tells Barnabas that Judah is dying, and she has to go to him. She gets up and stops, saying his body is burning. She then comes out of her trance and tells him that it's over. Barnabas says that she managed to destroy Judah Zachery. She said she had to do whatever he said. Barnabas says they must confirm that he has been destroyed.

In the cemetery, Barnabas says that Zachery must be dead, or she'd still be under his power. They step into the secret passage and find the place in shambles. They see a body buried under rocks. Julia says that ether must have exploded based on lightning. She wonders where the mask is. They leave the body buried under rubble.

Barnabas tells Julia to close the grave, and she pulls the lever to do so. He says that it is now Judah Zachery's tomb.

Roxanne reads a note from Barnabas that explains she's fortunate that he will be staying with his wife. Trask stands over her, pointing out that she was completely absorbed in her letter. Trask tries to make moves on her while she's vulnerable, but she won't have anything to do with him. He says he's honored she's confiding in him. She says if her father hadn't forced Trask upon him, things might be different. He tells her that his happiest moments have been with her. He reminds her that she could come to love him. She tells him that she doesn't love him. He assures her that he can make everything different if she marries him.

Gerard lies in bed thinks about Julia and Leticia making Zachery whole again. He then wonders why he's so sleepy. He falls asleep and dreams. He hears Zachery's voice telling him to find it. He asks what he's looking for. The voice says 'hate' and laughs. Gerard wakes with a start, saying, "Of course!"

Gerard arrives at the grave and pulls the lever to open the secret path.

Barnabas tells Julia that Quentin and Desmond agree that they should not tell the authorities about Zachery. Trask walks in on them and asks if Samantha is home. Julia says she's upstairs. Trask asks Barnabas how his beautiful wife is doing. He adds that he will soon be joining those joined in holy matrimony, marrying Roxanne Drew. Barnabas is shocked. Trask asks if he's going to congratulate him. Julia says it comes as a surprised, but they both hope he will be happy.

Gerard looks around in the tomb. He sees the hand extending from the rubble. He smiles when he sees the mask. He lifts it up, revealing Zachery's head.

Our thoughts:

John: Didn't Zachery survive destruction by fire previously? Why would they think he was destroyed so easily? Surely they know better!

Christine: They were led to believe he was destroyed when his possession of Julia ended. So, why did he lose control over Julia? Was it because he decided to possess Gerard instead? How come he couldn't manage them both? It would seem he needs the services of a doctor now more than ever.

John: How long is a full moment? Trask made a big deal that he was watching Roxanne for a full moment, like that's a lot of time.

Christine: A full moment is much longer than you would want Lamar Trask staring at you unaware.

John: So I guess we're to understand that Zachery's head popped off his body when the place was falling apart? I'd love to hear the explanation as to why. And particularly, why he suddenly stopped pursuing Gerard.

Christine: It appeared that he stopped pursuing Gerard because he was overcome by smoke and flames, and his head may have been blown off when the ether exploded. So, will Gerard be putting his head back in a box, and will he be tasked with finding a new body for it?

Dark Shadows Episode 1136 11/2/70

You can stream today's episode free on TubiTV

Leticia searches Rose Cottage for the mask. She finds a box and picks the lock on it. Inside, she finds the bejeweled mask. She takes the box and runs into Gerard. He asks what she was doing in the room alone in the dark. He asks her what's in the box, and takes it from her. He picks up the mask, and asks where she found it. She tries to convince him it's worthless, and he accuses her of lying. He asks where she got it, and if there's more where it was. He asks where she was going in such a hurry. She says she was going to put it back where she found it, but she could instead take it to Mr. Braithwaite to get an appraisal. He tells her to do that, and says he will wait for her.

Leticia takes the box back to the secret room in the cemetery, unaware that Gerard followed her. He doesn't see her use it, and wanders around the cemetery looking for her.

Leticia shows Julia the mask. Julia tells her that once the storm begins, everything will be ready.

Gerard returns to Collinwood and finds Daphne. He asks her to call him Gerard, and she says she'll refer to him as Mr. Stiles. He asks about Julia, and she tells him she's not there. He asks if she ever smiles and she excuses herself. Before she goes, he asks her what her real name is. She says Daphne Harridge is her real name, and asks why he would ask her. He tells her he researched where she came from, and there was no one with her name from there. She tells him that it's none of his business where she came from. He tells her that he likes her more and more all the time. She asks why he keeps investigating her, and he says that it was finding the gun in her purse. He reminds her that Quentin is his best friend. He apologizes for bothering her. She bids him goodnight.

Zachery's head is sewn onto his body. Leticia tells Julia that she's truly a wizard. Julia tells her to get the blood so she can fill his veins.

Gerard is playing the piano when Quentin bursts into the drawing room. He asks him where he got the music, and Gerard tells him it was on the piano. Quentin tells him that's impossible, because he burned the music a year ago. Gerard tells him that he must be mistaken. Quentin tells him that someone is doing this. Gerard asks what he's talking about. Quentin reminds him of Joanna. Gerard asks if she's back in his life. He says she is, that he's getting letters from her, but it's impossible because she died months ago. Quentin shows him the first note that said she was dead. He then describes the other notes. Gerard says that either someone is trying to upset him, or Joanna is communicating with him from beyond the grave. Quentin is sure that someone living is responsible. Gerard tells Quentin to let him know if there's anything he can do. He asks if Quentin has noticed that Leticia has been acting strange, and if he knew that she had befriended Julia.

Julia places the mask on Zachery's face and connects wires to it. She tells Leticia that they just have to wait for lightning to make contact with the mask.

Daphne asks Quentin if she can get him anything. He tells her know. She asks if everything is alright, and he explains that nothing is every alright in the house. She apologizes for asking, and offers to help if she can. He thanks her, and points out how gentle she is. He says she'll be very good for Tad. He says he wants to be sure she's happy in Collinwood. She assures him that she is.

Leticia asks when something will happen, and Julia explains it will happen when lightning touches the body. Leticia tells her that it's not going to work. The body then begins to convulse as electricity flows through it. The body stops moving, and Leticia asks if they failed. Julia listens for a heartbeat, and tells Leticia that Zachery is alive!

Our thoughts:

John: I was hoping we might get another Abe Vigoda sighting, but it looks like Leticia won't be visiting Mr. Braithwaite any time soon.

Christine: I was expecting Gerard to discover Judah Zachery's secret resting spot after following Leticia, as well as put two and two together on Daphne's pistol packing and the sudden Joanna clues turning up. This guy is really losing his edge. Maybe he'll make some headway on one of those fronts by the end of the week.

John: For a minute I was beginning to wonder if Julia's lab setup was actually a still for manufacturing moonshine! Where is she getting the blood for this transfusion? Is she raiding Barnabas' personal stash?

Christine: Where does Julia ever get her endless supply of blood? That might be a question worth investigating. She must be the one feeding Barnabas.

John: As tempting as it is, I think I'll forego creating a lightning stock footage tracker. But every time I see that, I'm going to think of the opening to Bob Wilkins' Creature Features

Christine: So, Judah Zachery has got a heartbeat. Will he be able to talk? Will he be able to sing "I Wanna Dance with You" with Leticia? What is in store for the Collins family now that the evil dead sorcerer has been restored to life?

Dark Shadows Episode 1130 10/26/70

You can stream today's episode free on TubiTV

A caped figure wanders through the Eagle Hill Cemetery. It enters the mausoleum, and goes into the secret room. Angelique is shocked to find Barnabas' coffin is gone, and says that he will never get away from her. She calls to someone named Laszlo. He comes inside and is not impressed by an empty tomb. He says they come every year, and there's nothing there to see. He asks what's different, as she normally walks out happy. She tells him she never answers his questions, and yet he keeps asking them. She tells him that there is an estate in town called Collinwood. He's to get it using his gypsy ingenuity to find out everything he can about Barnabas Collins. She's not sure if they will know him. He asks who Barnabas is, and she says he's the only man she ever loved. He adds, except him, of course, and she repeats it. She tells him he cannot bring up Barnabas' name first. She sends him on his way.

Barnabas stops by to see Leticia. As they're talking, she stops and says he seems like a man who has been there a long, long time. He says Quentin and Desmond said that she knows about something, and she says she doesn't know anything about the head, and asks why they sent him. He tells her that it's important that they find... and she interrupts him. He tells her that the children's governess was killed on the way to Rose Cottage. He asks her if she knows where the head is. She says the head is evil, and if none of them ever see it again, it will be for the best. He says he hopes for her sake that she doesn't know where the body is. He leaves, and she opens a cupboard where she has the head in a box stashed.

Gabriel tells the gypsy that there's not a lot of need to tell the future. He says he needs to know about the present, and asks if he can see a headless man. Laszlo says the house is against itself. Gabriel asks for details, and Laszlo says for a modest fee... Gabriel cuts him off and says he can put him back out in the storm. He tells Laszlo to read his palm, and he does. Barnabas walks in, and Gabriel tells Laszlo he can read Barnabas' palm next. Laszlo gets up to leave. Barnabas tells him to be careful if he's going into the village, as there are strange things happening tonight. Laszlo says he knows far better than Barnabas.

Leticia speaks to the head, and calls out to the body of Judah Zachery, telling it to show her where it is. She sees a vision of the body covered in leaves. She turns to the head and says she knows what she must do now.

Gabriel asks Barnabas why he didn't let the gypsy read his palm. Barnabas suggests that it's odd for a gypsy to have wandered onto the estate. Gabriel asks how Barnabas' search for the headless man is coning. He says he's going to join the search before he can kill someone else.

Leticia finds the headless body in the woods. She brushes away the leaves, an the body grabs her. She calls it by name and says she was sent to find it. It seems tentative, but lets her help it. It takes her hand and she leads it away.

Angelique is waiting in the mausoleum when she hears a whistle. Laszlo enters and tells her he learned nothing' no one was home. He then adds that he was introduced to Barnabas. She asks him to tell her if he still has a strange look in his eyes — and when he smiles does his face go gentle? Laszlo says he didn't smile at him. He adds that he recently arrived from London. She says, "So that's his story." Laszlo asks if he came from this room, and she says that's none of his concern. He says she'll tell him, or he'll find out for himself.

Leticia leads the headless body back to the coffin where he was buried. She tells him that he'll be safe. She steps away from him and he panics, swinging his arms around. She helps him into a chair, and tells him to stay.

Angelique arrives at Collinwood, and introduces herself to Gabriel as Mrs. Barnabas Collins. She says she wanted to surprise him. Gabriel says it surprised him, and introduces himself as a cousin. She explains her trunk was stolen off of the stage from Boston, and asks when her husband will be  back. Gabriel says he is staying at the old house. He offers her a brandy and she accepts. He asks if she's from England, too. She says she is, and that she can't wait to see the expression on his face when he arrives. He adds that Julia, Barnabas' sister, might still be up, and offers to go get her. She acts like she knows of her, and says that she's never met her. She tells him to see if she's still up.

Leticia returns to Rose Cottage, and covers the box with the head in the cupboard.

Gabriel says Julia must be at the old house. She says that Julia was upset when she arrived and Barnabas wasn't there yet. She asks if Gabriel minds if she waits. She says it's almost like the end of a dream — being reunited with Barnabas and finally meeting Julia.

Leticia brings the box with the head to the secret grave, and tells the body he can now be whole again. The headless body approaches the boxed head...

Our thoughts:

John: Angelique is back, and has brought Aristede with her! Well, Laszlo, anyway. For what it's worth, he's another familiar face for the 1840 flashback, and a welcome one at that! I wonder what the gypsy will make of the warlock with a detached head! And I can't wait for Julia and Angelique to meet up, since Julia will definitely recognize her...

Christine: If Laszlo is anything like his predecessors, he will be seeking to get the Head for himself to reap the benefits of its power. I don't know if I hope for Julia to meet up with Angelique first or Barnabas, or maybe both at the same time! Any way it plays out, the Angelique reunion should be fun to watch!

John: I called it — though it's not like it took Leticia's second sight to figure out that she had taken the head. And poor Barnabas seems to have forgotten whether he's looking for the head, the body or both!

Christine: I had assumed she had taken it to get rid of the evil thing rather than help reunite the parts. I wonder if she'll be tasked with sewing it back together or if it will magically meld itself.

John: So explain to me how a headless body that can't see appears to have perfect hearing (without ears)? Do you think once his head is screwed on, Zachery will be Leticia's boyfriend? She seems to have really hit it off (with his body, anyway)...

Christine: Why would you question how a headless body can hear and not how it can walk or move around without a brain? Clearly supernatural beings on this show are imbued with the power to do anything the writers construct for them. It's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that Leticia will introduce the reconstructed Judah to the family as her new beau. I'm hoping for some excitement this week!
