Escorted by Liz, Vicki searches the cemetery at Eagle Hill for Peter's grave. She tells Liz that Peter was the only one who would protect her when she was being tried for witchcraft. Vicki gets the feeling that the grave is nearby, and keels down and clears the gravestone of Peter Bradford.

She realizes that today is the anniversary of Peter's hanging. Vicki says that the woman who she swapped places with didn't love Peter Bradford. She then remembers that she was in the cemetery when she shot Noah. She was trying to remember why she was in the cemetery, and then recalls she heard Daniel screaming. She longs to find the answers to her questions. She tells Liz they have to go into town.

Carolyn comes in from horseback riding to see Tony Peterson coming out of the drawing room. He says she's looking very rich. She says he hasn't called her in a week. He reminds her that the last time he saw her, she was in his office, stealing from him. Carolyn points out that Julia is a doctor, and asks if as her attorney he suggested she come clean about that. He turns to leave, and Carolyn tells him to come back at 8pm to take her to dinner. He says he won't be there.

Carolyn goes upstairs as Barnabas arrives. He asks to talk to her. She says she's preparing for dinner with Tony Peterson. Barnabas tells her that can wait. She obediently comes downstairs. He asks her where Vicki is, and she tells him she's out with her mother. He asks if she seemed different—more like her. She reaches for her neck, and she tells him he shouldn't have.

Liz and Vicki arrive home, with Vicki holding a painting she purchased in town. Barnabas goes to help her unwrap it, and Liz tells him to fix her a drink. He does, and when he comes back, he sees the painting that Vicki felt connected to. Barnabas sees it and says Angelique.

Liz responds that she does seem angelic. Barnabas makes a hasty exit, asking if he'll see Vicki later, and she tells him not tonight. He leaves, saying the painting is of little value. Vicki says he didn't like the painting, and then adds that he really shouldn't. Liz asks what she meant, and Vicki denies having said anything.

Carolyn is admiring the portrait of Angelique when Tony arrives to pick her up for dinner. She says she needs to have fun, and Tony says she's not dressed for night fishing or a baseball game—his ideas of fun. She tells him he's going to change, and he asks her if she wants to bet.

Barnabas calls to Carolyn from the old house, telling her to come to him immediately.

Tony calls for a truce and suggests they just have dinner together. Carolyn walks out on him, and tells him to stay there while she takes care of something. She says she'll meet him wherever he wants, and leaves. He follows her.

Barnabas asks what she means that she can't stay long. He suddenly realizes where his control isn't working on Vicki. Then he says the portrait explained it to him. There's a spell over Vicki. He tells Carolyn he's grateful for coming. He says the witch must be burned, and explains that the woman in the picture is the witch. He says he will deal with her himself, tonight. Carolyn asks what he wants her to do, and he says to comfort him. She says she will try. He leans in to bite her neck. Outside, Peterson watches from the window.

Carolyn returns to the main house, happy to see that Tony is still there. He explains he did more than waiting. He tells her he followed her. She says he doesn't understand, and asks what she saw. He says he saw her in his arms. He says she's in love with him. She says he's his cousin, and Tony says he always heard the idle rich are decadent—that was no cousinly kiss he saw. He calls her a poor little rich girl and storms out. She runs upstairs.

At 2am, Barnabas appears outside the drawing room window. He sees the painting on display. He enters through the front door and approaches the portrait of Angelique. Carolyn comes in and tells him she doesn't want him to call her anymore. He tells her to go away. She returns upstairs. He tells the portrait he has lived with her curse for almost 200 years. He carves the portrait out of the canvas, and throws it into the fireplace. He tells her that burning is the only way she will die, ending this curse. He then hears Angelique's laughter, and he sees the portrait is once again complete.

Our thoughts

John: So almost two years in and we learn there are stables at Collinwod? Or was Carolyn coming back from the bondage club with her riding crop?

Christine: Did Carolyn think Tony would miss the bite marks on her neck when they were making out after dinner, or was she planning on playing hard to get? Cousin Barnabas is really going to put a kink in her love life if he continues to demand that she be at his beck and call to 'comfort' him.

John: Thank the writers for providing a recap on the Carolyn/Peterson storyline. Hard to believe that only happened a week ago in Collinwood-present-time.

Christine: I was surprised to hear that Daniel is Elizabeth's great-great grandfather, which makes it weird that she said Jeremiah was her great grandfather in Episode 2, making her far more confused than we are about the ever changing family tree.

John: Wait just a minute. That sure looks like the painting that appeared over the portrait of Josette back in 1795. But when would it have been painted? And did it travel forward in time with Vicki?

Christine: It wasn't painted, it supernaturally materialized, much like the portrait of David in the Phoenix painting. It portends that Angelique is on her way back to torment Barnabas.
