David attempts to sneak out when Liz asks him where he's going. He says he's going to see Sarah, and she says he's got his lessons to worry about. Liz tells him he can see Sarah later. She asks what's troubling him, and David looks at the portrait of Barnabas and then runs upstairs to his room. Puzzled by his behavior, Liz turns to the portrait of Barnabas.
Vicki returns home and Liz asks her into the drawing room. She says she was visiting Maggie. She also heard that Willie was in a coma and is not expected to live through the day. She doesn't believe he was capable of kidnapping someone. Liz says she has no trouble believing a friend of Jason McGuire might do the things Willie is accused of. Liz asks Vicki about what's bothering David. Vicki says his being lost in the woods may have frightened him, but he should be past that now. Liz says he shouldn't go out alone. She doesn't want anything to happen to him.
In his room, David fails to finish a composition for Vicki. She asks him what he's frightened of. He claims not to be frightened of anything, and then jumps as Julia enters the study. Vicki asks is he'd like to join her in a visit to Barnabas at the old house. David says he'd rather stay home. He doesn't want to go to the old house, and tells Vicki she shouldn't go either, because it's not safe. He says he doesn't want to see his cousin Barnabas, and Vicki sends him up to his room. Julia tells her that Barnabas is gone for the day, and Vicki says she thinks he must sleep during the day, because he's so enamored with the night.
Woodard meets Julia, and tells her he got the last bullet out of Willie this morning. Julia asks if he thinks Willie will live. He gives him a 1% chance. Julia says she hopes he pulls through so he can confess, as it will validate her suspicion. Woodard is shocked that Julia is now saying that she felt Willie was responsible for abducting Vicki. He asks why she didn't tell him. She explains that she was on the case. He asks if what she's saying is true, why all the talk of the supernatural recently. She explains that she was lying to him. He asks her about Sarah, and the mystery surrounding her. Woodard asks if she'll be heading back to Windcliff soon. She can tell Mrs. Stoddard the truth. Julia says she doesn't want to. She'll spend a little more time there and then say she's done with her research. Woodard claims that there's another reason she's staying—Barnabas Collins. He laughs and says a romantic interest doesn't hurt anyone. She doesn't deny his claim.
Julia finds Vicki in the drawing room. She expresses concern about David, and Julia offers to talk to him. She says Liz is talking to David now.
Liz asks David about being afraid while he was lost in the woods. She asks if he's concerned about the man who kidnapped Maggie. She says Willie's been captured, and David tells her that Willie didn't kidnap Maggie. He says he's going to find Sarah, who can tell him if Willie was responsible.
Vicki says that maybe whatever's bothering David is trivial. They hear David come downstairs, saying he needs to find Sarah. He stops before the painting of Barnabas, and claims the eyes were alive!
Our thoughts
John: Is it really that hard for Vicki to believe Willie might have kidnapped Maggie? Too bad she couldn't go back and re-watch those early episodes.
Episode 205 |
John: Poor Dr. Woodard. Once again, Julia plays him like a violin. And once again he actually believes he knows what's going on, suggesting a romantic relationship between Julia and Barnabas. It will be interesting to see how long she continues the charade about being a historian just to stick around town.
Christine: It's funny that he believes Julia has a romantic interest in Barnabas because it's probably true, though she may not realize it yet. He may have just lit the spark.
John: Will David be able to rally Sarah to help prove Willie's innocence? And if Willie does pull through, how will he explain why he was at Maggie's?
Christine: He could say he just wanted to borrow a cup of sugar. It's possible that Liz's psychedelic dress from Ohrbach's caused David's hallucination at the end of the episode.

Woodard is so delighted with his observation that I half expected him to break into the "Julia and Barnabas sittin' in a tree..." kiddie taunt!
Did anybody else notice that Alexandra Moltke totally breaks up when David stumbles a bit on his "blaring/glaring eyes" line near the end of this episode? One of my favorite little moments.
