In the basement, Willie and Julia hear sobbing, but see no one. The sobbing stops, and Willie starts to leave. Julia says she knows who's sobbing, and it has to do with Barnabas. She says she saw Josette's ghost earlier, and she must have been grieving for Barnabas. She points to the brick wall, and asks why she'd be grieving next to that wall. Julia asks when Willie bricked up the wall, and he says he didn't. She asks who did, and then said it was Trask. She says he must have wanted revenge against Barnabas. She realizes that Barnabas is behind the wall, and has been there for three days and might be dead. Willie goes to get tools.

Willie returns with a hammer and chisel and starts working on the brick wall. He stops suddenly, and asks if Julia felt a draft. He resumes working and then drops his tools. He tells her someone touched his shoulder. She says it's his imagination, and a chair is thrown across the room. Willie asks her who knocked the chair over. other things move, and they hear Trask's laughter. He appears before them and tells them to leave, or they will die.

He disappears and Julia pleads to Trask that murder is a sin. He appears again. Julia explains the witch he was seeking has survived through time, and exists as Cassandra Collins. He disappears, and Julia says the coldness has gone. She tells Willie to resume working on the wall, but he refuses. She hands him the tools, and he reluctantly starts up once more. He loosens a brick, removes it, and screams that it's Barnabas.

After Willie exposes Barnabas, Julia checks and says he's still alive. Willie works on untying Barnabas' hands.

In the main house, Liz comes downstairs to the drawing room where Cassandra is sitting by the fire. She asks why Cassandra is making her think of death and nothing else. She begs her to stop it, and Cassandra asks her to look into her eyes. Liz does, and Cassandra leads her to sit down. She tells her that what she's experienced so far is nothing, and soon it will be far worse. Cassandra fixes her a sherry and tells her that she's Naomi Collins, the wife of Joshua Collins. She drinks the sherry, and explains she had a fight with Joshua today. She asks about her children, Barnabas and Sarah, saying she has a terrible feeling someone close to her is going to die tonight.

Willie and Julia watch over Barnabas' body. He stirs, and says she saved his life. He points out it was Trask's revenge. Willie explains that Trask tried to stop him from breaking down the wall. Julia says she reminded Trask that if he wanted revenge, he should seek out and destroy the witch. Barnabas wonders if Trask is more powerful than Cassandra.

Cassandra encourages Liz (Naomi) to have more sherry. She tells Liz she needs to take her to her final resting place. She beckons, and Liz follows.

Cassandra and Liz arrive at the Collins family mausoleum. She explains it will soon be her home. She says Joshua built it so she could be reunited with her children. Liz exclaims that Joshua and her children are still alive, but Cassandra points out the plots with their dates of death listed. Naomi's marker is blank. Liz says she's not Naomi Collins. Cassandra beckons her to look into an open casket. She is unable to avoid it. She then runs out, while Cassandra laughs.

Her laughing is interrupted by Trask appearing, calling her a witch. He tells her that her destruction is at hand, and he sets her on fire.

Our thoughts

John: Wow. Josette's sobbing sounded pretty manly today. So much so that at first I thought Adam had returned. Couldn't they have just replayed the crying from the last episode?

Christine: It is strange that they wouldn't use a soundtrack, and why not have Maggie do the crying? I wonder how Barnabas survived behind the wall for 3 days with no oxygen.

John: What made the writing on Naomi's grave marker disappear? Does Cassandra have new witchcraft skills? If so, she'd better use them quick.

Christine: You should know by now that Cassandra's skills as a witch are limitless, though it looks like she just covered it with a piece of cardboard. The marker was shown right before the scene where they enter the mausoleum and still has 1821 as the year of Naomi's death, while Sarah's plaque correctly lists 1795 as the year she died.

John: Wow—Phoenix flashback! Have we truly seen the last of Cassandra Collins? It's obvious we haven't yet seen the last of Angelique... but if this was Cassandra's swan song, she sure got a bum's rush out the door.

Christine: I thought it was more of a Bathia Mapes flashback with the same Bunsen burner witch burning, but still exciting to see her be "destroyed" again. Isn't this the third time she's died? I think we can expect an end to Cassandra. I can't imagine she wants to keep wearing an itchy wig. Will Trask really return to his grave now, or will he stick around to torment Barnabas?

"... or will he stick around to torment Barnabas?"

I know I kind of harp on the subject of Barnabas and Trask, but even if he's fully convinced of Angelique's part in everything, Trask might still have a "problem" with Barnabas. After all, no other killing by Barnabas was so "premeditated" and drawn-out.
