Jeb arrives at Widow's Hill looking for Carolyn, but finds Philip instead. Philip says Jeb is just where he was told he would be when he was let out of jail. They struggle, and end up with Jeb hanging precariously over the edge of Widow's Hill. Philip tells him that he is going to drown. Jeb manages to get free of him, and tells Philip to get up. Jeb says he's killed enough, and is going to let Philip go. Philip runs off, but then creeps back and as Jeb steps aside, Philip goes flying over the cliff. Jeb is shocked.

Peter appears and says that Jeb won't escape him. Jeb walks away from him, and Peter reiterates that he will destroy him.

Angelique appears and tell Peter that she will not destroy Jeb, as he belongs to her. Peter asks what Jeb did to her. She says she lost her husband due to Jeb, and she will destroy him. Peter says he can drown him as he did once before, the only way he can be killed. Angelique assures him that she has ways of killing him. Peter says if she fails he'll marry Carolyn. She says she won't fail. She says she'll go for Jeb as soon as she sends Peter back to his grave. She tells him to go back into the darkness, and Peter fades away...

Elizabeth reads Carolyn's letter to her explaining that she's running off with Jeb. Carolyn comes in and tells her she can't change her mind. She says she went to the carriage house looking for Jeb, but couldn't find him. Elizabeth says Jeb doesn't love her, but Carolyn says that he does. The phone rings, and she answers it. It's the sheriff calling for Megan. They learn of Philip's escape from jail. She tells her mother they don't even know where to look for him. Jeb steps in and tells her they can look in the water near Widows' Hill.

Jeb explains what happened to Philip in a call with the sheriff. He hangs up, and he says they told him Philip had a nervous breakdown earlier, and he escaped when a doctor came to see him. He says they said his periods of madness came during his times of need to kill. Carolyn tells him that she was afraid of losing him. Elizabeth tells Jeb that she doesn't approve of the marriage, but she doesn't want to lose Carolyn. She asks them to stay and get married in Collinwood. Carolyn asks her mother to give them some time alone. Jeb says he doesn't want a big Collins wedding. Carolyn says they can still have a small wedding with just the family. Jeb say no family, and no one is to know about it until it's done.

Elizabeth and Angelique have tea in the drawing room when Jeb comes in. Elizabeth tells him that she took care of the marriage license. She then introduces Jeb to Angelique Rumson. Angelique points out that Jeb was a good friend of her husband. Jeb admits to knowing him, but denies they are good friends. Angelique asks Jeb if he's planning to marry Carolyn. He says he is, today.

Jeb returns to the carriage house to find Angelique waiting for him. She asks him what he knows about her. He says that she's Sky's wife, and she's very beautiful. She says she knows about him. She says he should have been destroyed when the box was destroyed, the cairn blew up, and the room was burned. She says his will to live is no match for her. She says she knew how Peter Bradford planned to kill him. She adds that she has the means to destroy him in the room.

Elizabeth brings Carolyn an old pin to wear, and gives her a hanky. Carolyn thanks her for accepting Jeb, realizing that she actually hasn't accepted him. She assures her mother that it's all going to work out. Elizabeth laments that she's not having a big wedding.

Jeb says that he didn't ruin Angelique's marriage. She tells him to go, and then puts a cut out piece of construction paper on him, telling him that it will follow him everywhere. She tells him to come to the fire so that she can show him what is going to happen. He does, reluctantly, and looks into the fire. He describes what he sees.

Jeb is asleep on a bed. He awakens, and sees a ghostly shadow in the shape of the construction paper Angelique put on him. He screams.

Angelique asks him if he wants to see more. He says he saw the shape, and puts down the construction paper. She says that death waits for him around every corner—not just on Widows' Hill, and it will follow him everywhere he goes.

Elizabeth gives Carolyn a sapphire bracelet so that she has something blue to be a traditional bride.

Jeb waits downstairs for Carolyn. He admires himself in the mirror, and sees the spooky shadow behind him. He turns on a light and the shadow goes away.

Carolyn comes downstairs and hugs him. They start for the drawing room when there's a knock at the door. Elizabeth answers it, and as she lets the reverend in, Jeb sees the shadow once more.

Our thoughts

John: Philip's leap off of Widow's Hill was comical. What was particularly great was that he made no effort to grab Jeb as he sailed over the cliff with a dumbfounded look on his face.

Christine: That was hilarious! I think it was the way he was flailing his arms around as he ran straight off the cliff that made it such an enjoyable moment. What a way to go! Here it is for your enjoyment:

John: So Jeb will be brought down by the shadow of a creepy cut-out? If that's supposed to be death, it's far less frightening than one might expect. Perhaps they've forgotten that we've already met death, and he's a nicely dressed man.

Christine: It made me think of a golem. I wonder if it will remain a terrifying shadow, or if it will eventually take on form. Angelique seems to be having a bit of fun, knowing that Jeb is a big wuss and can easily be scared by a piece of paper and the power of suggestion.

John: I guess we should thank Angelique for making Peter Bradford's stay in 1970 a brief one. That said, she did manage to pull the rug out from under what was otherwise a huge build-up that amounted to very little. In terms of old familiar faces popping up, is anyone else hoping that a descendant of reverend Trask will show up to officiate the ceremony?

Christine: It would seem that anything goes at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if Burke Devlin showed up at Collinwood, claiming he survived the plane crash in Brazil, only to find out that Vicki took a flying leap off Widows' Hill in 1797.

Dark Shadows Episode 967 3/10/70

Carolyn finds Jeb in the carriage house. She tells him that she has changed her mind, and can't go with him. He asks why. She says it's hard to explain, and he tells her to try. He gets angry, and when he grabs her shoulders, she starts screaming. They struggle and end up in a passionate kiss. He tells her it's too late, reminding her that she loves him, despite what her mother or Barnabas might say.

She says she's not there because of them, but because of her father. She says she dreamed of their wedding. She wanted her father to be there, but Barnabas came in and accused Jeb of killing her father. She says he admitted it, and then came after her. He tells her that everyone has nightmares. He says if she loves him, she'll have to forget about dreams like that. She says she does, and kisses him, then adding that she needs more time. He tells her that he can't wait anymore. She reiterates that she needs more time, and he offers her two hours to pack. He starts to walk her back to Collinwood, and she tells him that she doesn't need him to walk her back, as she needs to think and he would be too distracting.

She leaves and the door swings open. He looks out, and seeing no one, closes the door. The lights go out. He asks who's there. He says he knows it's Paul Stoddard. He says there's nothing Paul can do. He says his daughter loves him. Peter Bradford appears with a noose around his neck, and asks Jeb if Carolyn loves him as much as Victoria Winters loved him.

Jeb recognizes him, and realizes that it was Peter who saved Maggie and Willie. Peter says he also saved Julia, burned the book, warned David, and put the noose around Bruno's neck. He says he knows the way to kill Jeb. Jeb says he can't kill him, as he's only an illusion. Jeb says it wasn't his fault Vicki killed herself. Peter says Jeb sent Vicki over the cliff on Widow's Hill, and then he pushed Jeb over, and he's going to do the same thing tonight. He says it may not be his hand, but someone will, and he will die the only way he can—through drowning.

Peter blames Jeb for ruining his chances with Vicki, and he's going to do the same to Jeb and Carolyn. Jeb saye he won't let him harm Carolyn, and Peter disappears. The light comes on, and Jeb picks up the phone to call Collinwood. He tells Carolyn not to go anywhere until he gets there. She asks what he's talking about and he says he can't explain. He agrees to meet her in two hours exactly.

Vampire Megan wakes, and Sky asks her where she's going, and she asks what difference it makes. She says she has something to do. She tells him that he can go away, and she'll summon him when he wants him. In between those times, she says he can go where he wants and do what he wants. She leaves him.

Megan appears in Philip's jail cell. He wakes up and asks how she got in. She says she made an arrangement with the guards. He asks her what's the matter, and she says she's fine. He says he doesn't understand why he's there. He says they showed him a signed confession, but he doesn't know anything about it. She bares her fangs and he screams as she leans in to bite him.

Jeb watches the clock, and then throws a drawer full of clothes into a suitcase. He hears Peter's voice threatening to kill him in one hour on Widow's Hill.

Peter appears in Philips cell. Philip tells him that he's not going to tell him anything, and Peter says he doesn't have to. He says he knows everything already. He introduces himself as centuries-dead Peter Bradford. He says they are both men in love with women who were destroyed by the same man. Philip blames Barnabas for making Megan what she is, and Peter says that Barnabas couldn't help it. Philip says that he'll get him. Peter says that even if he's found innocent, they'll think he's crazy. Peter offers to unlock the door as long as Philip does what he says.

Jeb continues to watch the clock, and then calls Collinwood once more. Carolyn runs downstairs to answer the phone. Jeb tells her that he's coming right over. She says she has made up her mind, and she'll be ready. Jeb goes to put on his coat and stumbles. He falls into a chair and passes out. Peter appears and says there's very little time left for him. He rolls back a clock about an hour.

Carolyn wonders what's taking Jeb so long to arrive. She calls the carriage house, but the ringing phone doesn't wake Jeb. She grabs her coat and prepares to leave, until she remembers Jeb's admonition not to leave the house. She stops and sits down.

Jeb stirs and wakes, wondering what happened. He goes to call Carolyn, and then notices that based on the time, there's no rush. He opens the door to find Peter Bradford. He tells her Carolyn isn't at Collinwood. He tells Jeb that she's where Vicki was before she died. Jeb goes around him and leaves.

Carolyn calls the carriage house again, but there's still no answer. She starts to leave again, and is haunted by Jeb's words, "strange" and "frightening." She decides to take the back path, in case anyone is waiting for her.

Jeb arrives at Collinwood looking for Carolyn, but she's not there.

Carolyn arrives at the carriage house, but Jeb is not there.

Peter tells Jeb that Carolyn is where Vicki was, and he runs out to Widows' Hill. When he arrives at Widows' Hill, Carolyn is not there, but Philip is. Philip says Jeb is just where he was told he would be when he was let out of jail. They struggle, Jeb hanging precariously over the edge of Widows' Hill.

Our thoughts

John: Peter Bradford? That explains the hanging man and all the noose-appearances. But what's all this about Jeb being responsible for Vicki's death? Jeb is a newborn Leviathan. Even if they were going to somehow tie Vicki's death to the (at the time) not-yet-introduced Leviathans, it wouldn't have been Jeb. And drowning as the only way to kill him? Did new writers take over and fail to brush up on recent history?

Christine: Things are getting more and more ridiculous! I'm beginning to think that Barnabas tripped and hit his head on a rock on his way to Kitty Josette that night in 1897, and the Leviathan diversion has just been a terrible dream borne out of his concussed brain. I do enjoy how Peter Bradford wears his noose like a fashion accessory. Bottom line is that all hope has been lost for the return of Victoria Winters, knowing that she finally fulfilled the legend Carolyn warned her about in Episode 9.

John: Oh Carolyn, what were you thinking? You've gotten every signal you could hope to receive. You confronted Jeb and he basically attacked you. And then he gives you a two-hour ultimatum when you say you need time, and yet you decide to go with him anyway? People under the control of vampires seem to make better choices.

Christine: Blech! Don't say I didn't warn you. It wouldn't be a soap opera if you weren't yelling at a character on screen to stop being so stupid. It was pretty gross the way Jeb muzzled her with his mouth. To her credit, she did appear to wipe away his sloppy kiss twice. There must be a little of that Leviathan slime left in him.

John: Again, I think it's too early in the week for Jeb to be dispatched, though I won't be surprised if Philip goes over the cliff to kiss Bill Malloy Rock down below...

Christine: That seems to be the likely scenario. What do you suppose was Megan's deal with putting the vamp bite on Philip? She seems to be getting her fill by using and abusing Sky Rumson. Was she still hungry or hoping to make him her vampire hubby?

Dark Shadows Episode 952 2/17/70

Amazon Prime members can stream today's episode free!

Barnabas enters the antique shop and goes upstairs. Outside the door, he hears the breathing. He goes downstairs and throws gasoline throughout the shop. He takes a match and lights the room on fire. He leaves the antique shop engulfed in flames.

Megan arrives at the flaming antique shop and calls to Jeb, telling him there's a fire.

Elizabeth receives a call from Megan, telling her that the shop is on fire and Jeb is trapped inside. She agrees to meet Megan there.

Barnabas tells Julia that by the time the firemen arrived, there was nothing left to save. He says Jeb didn't get out while he was there. Julia says that he knows he can't kill him. Barnabas says that every inhuman creature has one vulnerability. Julia asks if he thinks the Leviathan creature's is fire, and he says it can't be that easy. Barnabas says they have destroyed his room and his special powers. When Jeb comes to confront him, he will be human.

Elizabeth returns to Collinwood with Megan. Megan says she would have felt better had they found something—anything in the wreckage. She says she doesn't care about the antique shop, she only cares about him. Jeb appears in the drawing room and tells them that no one could get rid of him so easily.

Megan asks how he got out, and he says he was out the window and away before anyone realized it. He has the Leviathan box with him. Elizabeth goes to prepare a room for him. Jeb tells Megan that someone set the fire, and she was supposed to be there to protect him. Megan says that she say Barnabas in the crowd watching the fire. She said when she went looking for him later, he was gone. Jeb says Barnabas is a traitor, and he knew that he would move against him.

Julia prepares a syringe for Barnabas. She tells him that he has to accept her dosage, since he aged when she gave him the dosage he requested the last time. She goes upstairs, and Barnabas is surprised to find Jeb in the room with him.

Barnabas admits to having set the fire. He says he will keep trying until Jeb is destroyed. Jeb says that Barnabas will be destroyed first, but not until he sees him marry Carolyn and take over Collinwood. Julia comes downstairs and is shocked to see Jeb. He leaves, and she says she really hoped that he was dead. Barnabas tells her to return to Collinwood when he goes to sleep. He tells her they need to get Willie back. She says that she will stay until he's back.

Elizabeth asks Megan where Jeb is. She says she'll offer him the carriage house. She mentions that Jeb and Carolyn really seem to care for each other, and Megan angrily says she knows, and storms out.

Philip tells Megan that being in a jail cell, accused of three murders he didn't commit, is a nightmare. She says he could have let Jeb kill her, and he says that he couldn't. He adds that with his room destroyed, Jeb is just an ordinary man. Megan says that if they're loyal, Jeb will find someone else to claim responsibility for the murders. Philip tells her that he's glad the shop burned down. He says that if he ever gets out, they'll go someplace else and start all over again. He points out the one positive is having her back again.

Elizabeth asks Jeb if he likes the carriage house. He does. She says there's a room in the back where he can be his higher form. He says he feels like he belongs in Collinwood. He says he will take over soon, and she asks if she should ask Barnabas about having him move in. Jeb says she is not to consult Barnabas on anything; he is a traitor. She asks if she should keep him out of Collinwood, and Jeb tells her no. He wants Barnabas to see what's happening.

Barnabas rises and thanks Julia for protecting him. He starts to go out, and she asks him not to. He tells her that no matter what happens, there's one more thing that he must do.

Megan returns to Collinwood. She tells Elizabeth that it must seem odd that a woman whose husband was killed, and the woman whose husband was accused of the murder, were staying under the same roof.

Barnabas bats into Philip's jail cell. Philip asks how he got there, and says it's strange, and it frightens him. Barnabas says they will try him for three murders he didn't commit. Philip says if he tries to escape, Megan will be killed.

Barnabas tells him that Megan is Jeb's slave. Barnabas tells him that Jeb turned him into a vile creature of the night. Philip is frightened, and says that he didn't betray Barnabas—that someone else already had.

Megan tells Jeb that Philip asked her to leave with him, and she said she would, IF he got out of jail. She then adds that she'd never go anywhere with him. She offers to consecrate the room for his higher self, and Jeb says that she didn't do that before—Oberon did.

He says he doesn't need the room. He says he's in a different form, and he plans to remain in this form. She says he's what's in the room, and Jeb is only what the world sees. He says the world seems to like it fine, and gritting her teeth, Megan says that Carolyn does. She says that if he wants Carolyn, it must be in the way that the book demands. Jeb asks if she would be jealous otherwise. He says he's tired of her thinking of him as something she has a special hold over. He tells her that he's different, and things between them are different. He kisses her. Lightning strikes and she asks what he did. The lights go out, and he says there's someone coming. He calls to them. Megan is terrified, and asks him who he angered.

Our thoughts

John: So things are playing fast and loose with the Leviathan creature. Everyone seems ready to re-do a room for him in Collinwood so he can switch back and forth between selves, but Jeb seems to want to stay in Carolyn-ready mode.  Methinks the days are numbered for the Leviathans...

Christine: We've got our vampire back and there seems to be little need to drag this storyline out, so it may be time to put the Leviathans back into the box and send them back to hell from whence they came.

John: If Barnabas can convince Philip that Megan doesn't even care about him, what good is that going to do? If Philip recants his confessions to the murders, will anyone believe him? And does he have any physical evidence that can pin the murders on Jeb? Maybe they'll let Carolyn's dream testimony corroborate his accusations!

Christine: There is no evidence to show that Philip did commit the murders, so without a confession, there isn't much to hold against him, especially since he is not a slime monster.

John: So Jeb crossed a line by kissing Megan? It's not like she's his mother. I wonder who's coming to see them. Oberon would make sense, except for the fact that if Oberon could have traveled through time, he never would have needed Barnabas. I guess we'll find out tomorrow!

Christine: Eww! Yes, she is his mother! She held and nurtured him when he was a baby, and corrupted him with the permissive parenting that made him the obnoxious lout that he is now. Someone must have finally decided that Jeb violated too many rules in the Leviathan book, and can't allow the precious Leviathan seed to go to waste when it's supposed to go toward propagating the race. I hope he's in for some serious reprimanding.
