Joe sees Maggie and Blair together in Blair's magic mirror. Joe says that he's lost Maggie, his job... everything. All because of Angelique. She reiterates that she doesn't want him. He tells her that she ruined his life and doesn't even care, and she agrees. He grabs a letter opener and threatens to kill her. She tells him he looks ridiculous, and he says he should kill himself. She tells him that she is bored by him, and turns her back on him. She hears him grunt, and turns around to find he has stabbed himself in the stomach with the letter opener. She appears concerned, and Joe tells her to let him die. Angelique fears that Nicholas will return and find Joe dead. She calls for Barnabas to come to her.

In the old house, Barnabas hears Angelique's call. He cannot resist it.

Barnabas arrives at Blair's, and asks Angelique if she'll ever leave him alone. She points to Joe's body, and explains that he did it to himself. Barnabas asks why, and points out that Joe is dying. He notices the bite marks, and realizes what she has done. She tells him to take him to the woods and leave him there. She tells him to kill Joe, as she doesn't want him now that she has Barnabas.

Barnabas takes Joe to the old house, where Julia examines him. He says he found Joe in the woods. Joe keeps asking where 'she' is, and Barnabas assumes he's referring to Maggie. Julia says they must take him to the hospital, and Barnabas says he doesn't want the police involved. Julia cuts off Joe's shirt. She's shocked to see the bite marks on his neck, which Barnabas denies knowing about. She tells him that since Joe is the vampire's victim, he'll have to come there to see Joe. She tells Barnabas to get Maggie, and he says he will. Julia then asks what if it's not Maggie that Joe is asking for.

Maggie refuses to believe that Joe would attempt suicide. She says that he has changed so much. Julia enters and Maggie asks if Joe will live. She says she thinks so. She asks to see him alone, and goes upstairs. Barnabas asks if she bandaged Joe's neck, and she says she did. Julia adds that Barnabas may know more than he's admitting.

Joe tells Maggie that he doesn't want her to see him like this. She tells him he must get well. Maggie asks him if she did something, and Joe says no. She then asks him if it was 'that girl', and he tells Maggie it was.

Barnabas tells Julia that he sent Maggie home. Julia says that they need a gun with silver bullets, in case she comes. He asks why she thinks it's a woman, and she suggests it's Cassandra. He tells her that Cassandra is dead, and that she wasn't a vampire. Barnabas says she's right that now is the time for them to catch the vampire. He tells her to rest while he takes the first watch.

Joe wakes up. Barnabas says he found him in the woods, and Joe says he knows Barnabas was at Blair's house with Angelique. Barnabas says he must not mention her name. Joe realizes that Barnabas is the one Angelique left him for, and tells him that he'll kill him.

Our thoughts

John: Wasn't that Adam's sweater that Joe was wearing, which Julia so unceremoniously cut right off of him?

Christine: Not the same sweater, but surely the same color that had me initially thinking it was Adam in the bed. Is this the first naked man chest we've seen on Dark Shadows? Joe must have given himself a very small wound as it's not visible.

John: I was impressed that Julia figured out the vampire was a woman, but disappointed that she'd assume it was Cassandra and not Angelique.

Christine: I think she knows they're one in the same, but since she's only known her as Cassandra and not Angelique, it seemed natural for her to use her pseudonym.

John: I'm beginning to think it might just be easier if Barnabas were to kill Joe. I wonder if he's feeling the same.

Christine: He'd be better off if he gave Joe the gun with silver bullets and convinced him to kill Angelique. I thought it was funny that Barnabas thought Angelique might dump him in the woods when she was done with him the same way she wanted to do with Joe. Silly Barnabas! Doesn't he know by now that she will never be done with him? Never!
