Jeff is working in the basement of the old house when he thinks he hears someone. He continues his work on the experiment, and realizes he has found the information he needs in one of Julia's books.

Julia startles him, asking him what he's doing with her notebook. He says it's because of Vicki. He says he wants to know more in case anything happens to Julia. She tells him that he knows all that he needs to know, and that if he wants to look at her property, he should first ask permission. He asks who she plans to use for the life force for Adam's mate, and what will happen to her. She says she doesn't know who, but they should be fine. She adds the less that he knows, the better. She asks him to finish the wiring he was working on, and goes upstairs to greet Barnabas.

Barnabas sits by the fireplace when Julia comes upstairs. He tells her that he's puzzled. He says there have been no attacks in Collinsport. He wants to know why the one who attacked Tom Jennings hasn't attacked anyone else. He's still convinced Blair is involved. Julia reminds him that Willie has been watching Blair's house, and hasn't seen anything. He says he still senses that something is wrong. He's sure there is another vampire very close to them. Julia tells Barnabas that she found Jeff reading her notes on the experiment. He assumes Jeff wants the experiment to succeed. Julia says she doesn't trust him.

There's a knock at the door, and it's Vicki to see Barnabas. She says that Professor Stokes called, and is on his way to meet him. He thanks her for the message, and Vicki asks Barnabas if he'd allow her to speak to Julia privately. Vicki asks Julia if Jeff is alright, as he's been behaving strangely. Julia assures her that Jeff is fine.

Barnabas comes downstairs and Jeff starts upstairs. Barnabas tells him that Vicki is upstairs, and so he may want to stay downstairs. He goes up anyway, saying he wants to hear what she's saying.

Vicki tells Julia that Jeff turned down a good job from Roger with no explanation. Julia says he must have a good reason. Vicki thinks he might be having second thoughts about getting married. Jeff hear this, and then Julia takes her back to Collinwood.

Stokes tells Barnabas that Adam has disappeared. Jeff comes upstairs, and Barnabas explains that Jeff is helping with the experiment. Stokes tells Jeff about Adam. He adds that Adam was in love with Carolyn. Barnabas realizes that Carolyn was hiding him. Stokes describes Adam's note, and reiterates that Adam had threatened to kill Vicki. Stokes encourages Jeff to work around the clock for Vicki's sake.

Jeff apologizes to Vicki for breaking another date with her. Vicki asks him for three minutes of his time. She takes him into the drawing room and asks if he still loves her. He says he does. She asks why he turned down Roger's offer. Jeff explains that he can't leave Collinsport now.

She then asks why he's staying away from her. He says he's been busy, but won't tell her what he's doing. He assures her that he wants to marry her. She says she can't marry someone who can't confide in her, and gives him his ring back.

Barnabas checks on Julia, who tells him the body will be completed tomorrow.

Our thoughts

John: I do enjoy Jeff Clark's spirited interactions with other characters, but boy his internal monologues can be torturous.

Christine: I was wondering why he's asked himself a thousand times why that girl, Angelique, has a hold over him. Did he not notice the way she latched onto his neck the other day? Incidentally, what do you think Julia is keeping in the jars in the locked cabinet where her notes are kept?

John: Stokes finally confirms what we've all known for several hundred episodes. The cruelest rejection a man can ever know is getting turned down by Carolyn Stoddard.

Christine: Since when did Julia become everyone's doctor? It must be since she helped Barnabas kill Dr. Woodard.

John: I want to know what parts Adam's mate's body is still missing, and where they're coming from tomorrow. Fedex? It's not like they had Amazon Body Parts Prime in 1968...

Christine: When Lang created Adam, it was the head that was supplied last, so maybe she's waiting to get a head.
