Barnabas stares out the window of the old house when Julia comes in give him another treatment. Barnabas says that perhaps he should give her a treatment. He says he requires loyalty, and grabs her throat as he says he shouldn't take any more chances. He tells her he knows someone was in the house, and she admits that David had been in the house. He says he was in danger and she didn't tell him. He had to find out from Roger. Barnabas tells her that he's taken care of David, and she asks him what he did. He tells her that he didn't touch David. Barnabas listens to Julia's assurances that he's safe, and he says that he must find his bride, Josette. He takes off his jacket so she can administer the treatment.
Julia and Roger have tea in the drawing room. She mentions that Mrs. Johnson told her Dr. Woodard had been to the house to see David in the night. Roger tells her David's story of the bat. Julia suggests sending David away to school. Roger tells her that Barnabas had suggested the same thing. She appears shaken when he mentions that he told Barnabas about David's nightmares. Outside the drawing room, David hears his father talking about sending him away.
He says that he'll prove that he's right, and no sooner he says that then he hears Sarah tell him it's not safe. He pulls out the wooden soldier she said would protect him. He says he's got to get into the basement to prove what he saw is true.
David exits the study with some keys and Vicki asks what he's doing. He says he's looking for his aunt, and shows Vicki the toy soldier Sarah gave him. He lies and tells her he found it outside. She suggests that he should share it with Miss Hoffman.
In the drawing room, Vicki tells Julia about the toy soldier. She tells Vicki it sounds like one she saw in an old family album. She says she'll take a look at it. Meanwhile. David sneaks out of the house.
David uses the keys he found to get into the old house.
Julia returns to the drawing room, and Vicki asks Julia if David showed her the toy soldier. She says he wasn't in his room, and offers to check and see if he went to the old house.
David tries several keys on the cellar door.
In the basement of the old house, Barnabas rises from his coffin.
David finds the key that unlocks the basement door. He goes downstairs and finds the open coffin in the room, empty. Barnabas appears and slams the coffin shut. Startled, David turns around to face him.
Our thoughts
John Barnabas was so charming when he showed up on the scene. These days, he always seems to have the angry vampire vibe going.
Christine: Maybe the daily injections are making him cranky.
John: Rather convenient for David to come up with keys to the old house so easily. Considering we know how hard it is to find keys in Collinwood, the fact that he a) finds keys and b) they open all the doors he wants in the old house is a bit of a stretch.
Christine: So, you would have preferred to watch him hunting around for keys for the next few episodes?
John: Having stumbled across Barnabas at his coffin, it would seem like David is at the end of his rope. We'll see where things go tomorrow, but it almost seems like finding out Barnabas is a vampire will put David's mind at ease, allowing them to become best friends.
Christine: That might be true if it weren't for the fact that Barnabas wants to kill him. Great ending for a Tuesday! I expect Julia will be hurrying over to the Old House with her shiny hypno-medallion at the ready.
