Barnabas says something went wrong
with Angelique's curse, and he's sure it's all over now. He tells her to go get
Willie. She doesn't want to leave him alone, but she does. There's a
knock at the door. He asks who it is, but there is no answer. He steps
outside and sees no one. A bat shadow appears and he screams, clutching his
throat.
Carolyn returns to the root cellar. Adam is crying, clutching his throat. She asks what's wrong, and he says it hurts. She looks at his neck and sees nothing. She says she'll bring Julia Hoffman, and Adam says no. He says Barnabas' name, and Carolyn asks if Barnabas did something. Adam is in agony. Carolyn says professor Stokes will be there soon.
Julia comes upstairs and finds Barnabas lying on the ground outside, his neck bleeding. She calls for Willie, as Barnabas tells her Angelique has won. He says she knows what to do.
Willie comes outside and sees what happened. He says Barnabas is going to be like he was before. Willie complains they're going to hear the dogs howling, and Barnabas will be prowling around at night. Julia says they need to keep him alive.
Willie says he'll have to live in the coffin, and Willie will have to
protect him, unless they do what Barnabas told them to do. He says
Barnabas gave him a stake and hammer. Willie says he won't do it, and
Julia tells him to help her carry Barnabas into the house.
Adam tells Carolyn to go. She says she'll be back with a doctor. Adam gets up and falls onto his makeshift bed. Adam passes out as Stokes enters the root cellar. She describes what happened, saying Adam kept referring to Barnabas. Stokes says Adam hates Barnabas, and when she asks why, he says there are many unanswered questions about Adam.
Julia tells Willie that Barnabas is dead. There's no heartbeat. Willie starts to cry. He asks her what they're going to do. Willie asks if Julia could kill Barnabas.
Carolyn tells Stokes that Adam is dying. She pleads for the professor to help Adam.
Julia and Willie stand over Barnabas' corpse. Willie has brought the hammer and stake. She tells him to give them to her, and she places the stake over Barnabas' heart. She can't bring herself to do it.
Willie is glad. He understands. She thanks Willie. She says she promised Barnabas, but she can't. He says there's a coffin in the basement, and another in the secret room in the mausoleum. Julia says too many people know about the secret room. She says they'll bury him in the woods in an unmarked grave. She tells Willie to go and start digging a grave.
Stokes tells Carolyn Adam's heart has stopped. Carolyn says they should go for the police, but Stokes says not yet. He's sure more will happen that night.
Julia and Willie stand over an open grave. Julia wonders if they're doing what Barnabas wants. Willie prepares to begin burying him, and Julia kneels down to pray first.
Carolyn says a person's heart beating doesn't stop and then start again. She asks Stokes how long he's going to sit there. He agrees they must accept it, and prepares to leave. Carolyn says she can't leave Adam in the root cellar. Stokes tells her he'll return with Julia.
Willie and Julia stand over the newly covered grave of Barnabas.
Our thoughts
John: So Barnabas asks Julia to promise to stake him, and while she does promise him, when the time comes she doesn't do it. Instead, they bury him, underground this time, so he'll be undead AND underground. Such a pal.
Christine: It's like déjà vu all over again. Barnabas should know by now that he can't trust anyone to do the staking. Even Angelique couldn't stake him.
John: Why is it that bodies at the old house are left lying on the ground while people walk all around them? This is becoming a regular thing. Mind your step around the old house. Dead corpses abound.
Christine: So, what's going on with Adam? According to Dr. Lang, he was supposed to drain the curse out of Barnabas as long as he lives.
John: Damn, Willie is one hell of a gravedigger. He not only dug a grave and managed to drop a coffin with Barnabas into the hole, single-handedly, in mere minutes. He then filled it! Good help is hard to find.
Christine: I was surprised he suggested they pray for Barnabas, and even more surprised by how Julia went about it. It isn't very discreet of them to leave an obvious mound with some flowers on top of it, which might attract attention. I wonder who will end up exhuming him, and how long it will take before someone does.

Grayson Hall and John Karlen really outdid themselves on the grieving theatrics today. How either one of them could keep a straight face is beyond me. Somewhere, Addison Powell is smiling and nodding his head.
This is the only episode that ever made me cry, even though I knew he wasn't going to stay dead, or underground. Willie really sold it for me!!
