Barnabas looks at a letter, recognizing the handwriting as Angelique's. She says Roger is going out of town, and she plans to come and see him that evening. Professor Stokes arrives at the old house, and Barnabas asks if he brought the talisman with him. Stokes notices Barnabas is nervous. He tells Barnabas he can see the talisman when he sees the witch. Barnabas says he was only interested in starting a collection of talismans. Stokes tells him that if true, the word will get out and people will be coming out of the woodwork asking him to help with witches.

Barnabas asks to buy it. Stokes is excited about an end table in Barnabas' house. Barnabas offers $1000 for the talisman. Stokes said at that price, he could never afford to buy it back. Stokes tells him that he'll give it to him on loan, saying he may need it someday, as Barnabas appears to need it now. Stokes warns Barnabas to keep it on him at all times.

Cassandra visits Barnabas, and compliments him on his house. She says she feels quite at home, and he tells her she should be, calling her Angelique. She says she doesn't know what he means, and he tells her that they were married in this very room. He asks her when and where she was born. She tells him New York, saying her parents are dead. He tells her they are long dead, from Martinique. He taunts her with other questions, and she says she didn't expect this. He tells her that she probably thought he would still be confined to the night. He points out that she met Vicki in the past, and found out he was alive in the world. She calls him insane. He tells her he's sure she can't afford too many questions. She denies being Angelique, and starts to leave. Barnabas tells her that she will not win this time.

Dr. Lang reviews the talisman Barnabas acquired, laughing and saying he has a vivid imagination. Barnabas tells him that Angelique is back, and he needs to keep the talisman for his own safety. Lang puts it down and asks Barnabas to wait while he meets with a patient. Cassandra enters, giving her name as Blair. She says she was traveling through Collinsport and she sprained her ankle. He looks at it, and seems to be transfixed by her. Cassandra looks at him with wide eyes, and he asks what's happening to him.

She tells him that he'll never remember. She says his hands will begin to tremble, and they do. She then describes a great pain, and he appears to be in agony.

She tells him that he is going to die, and then says he will remember none of this. He gets up and throws himself to his desk, where he is able to grab the talisman. She goes to grab it from him and he tells her not to touch it; that he's all right. She realizes that, and leaves immediately.

Barnabas tells Lang that it was surely Angelique who attacked him, and the doctor admits that he may be right. Barnabas asks about the permanent cure he offered, and asks him to implement it tonight. Lang explains that he's not yet ready. Barnabas asks him what he's planning. Lang decides that he must tell Barnabas his plan. Lang says that others have tried what he is planning to do, and all have failed. He takes Barnabas into another room to show him what he plans to do. Lang takes him into his laboratory. He explains that Barnabas' life form will be drained from his body, and placed into his unfinished work, as he unveils a stitched together human body.

Our thoughts

John: Is it just me, or has Robert Cobert been trying out some new exciting music cues over the past few weeks?

Christine: It is likely that he added some thrilling new music cues for reintroducing Angelique as well as the mad Doctor Lang. I recommend The Dark Shadows Complete Soundtrack Music Collection if you'd like to explore and enjoy Cobert's music cues.

John: Shouldn't Cassandra's leg be wrapped when she visits Barnabas? I guess it was clearly all an act, though one she decided to try out on Dr. Lang as well...

Christine: I wonder why she's keeping up the subterfuge with Barnabas and doesn't come right out and tell him she's out to get him. I also don't understand why she kept reiterating to Lang that he would remember none of her shenanigans, when she was attempting to kill him and there was no need. It was surprising to see Barnabas give Lang the talisman after assuming he had procured it for himself. He must be regaining some humanity.

John: Lang's lab is a perfect 60s looking Frankenstein lab. Of course it's odd to see it in what could otherwise pass as a doctor's office, as opposed to a room in a castle somewhere. Awesome not only that he has a secret lab, but that his 'work' is lying unfinished on a slab in it. Clearly this has been in the cards for longer than he knew Barnabas. What was his original plan as far as finding a life-force for his work?

Christine: I'm thinking he was keeping Jeff Clark on tap for the life force. I can't imagine that Barnabas is going to go for this scheme. He'll have to have a whole new portrait painted if he does. I am really enjoying Thayer David as Professor Stokes.
