Joshua is staring out the window in the drawing room when Millicent comes downstairs in her wedding gown. She asks if he's looking at the tower room, as she saw lights in it last night. He closes the window and says he was checking the weather. Millicent describes hearing noises - whispers and footsteps in the night. Joshua dismisses her comments and says he's got enough to deal with today thanks to her. He asks if she's told him about signing over her fortune, and she says she'll tell him in time.

Daniel runs in to announce Nathan's arrival. He comes in to the drawing room to see Millicent, when Naomi enters and tells him that he can't arrive to the chapel with the family. She tells Millicent to come with her, and as she leaves, she tells Joshua she's sure she saw a light in the tower last night. Nathan asks Joshua about the light in the tower. Joshua tells him it's of no concern of his. Nathan says his curiosity is satisfied, and that they shall meet at the wedding.

Barnabas' coffin sits closed in the tower room.

Back in the drawing room, Nathan toasts Millicent. Naomi and Joshua reluctantly throw back their drinks.

Nathan tells everyone that he has resigned his commission from the Navy. He says they may soon be making a trip around the globe. Millicent says they can discuss it at a later time. Naomi asks her if she's told him, and Millicent excuses herself, and leaves with Naomi. Joshua walks out, telling Nathan that he will soon find out that Millicent has indeed made plans of her own.

Daniel comes in and says he doesn't understand why Joshua is upset. He says he can't be upset about Nathan marrying Millicent, since the money isn't the issue. He's proved his sincerity by marrying her anyway. Nathan asks what he means, and Daniel tells him she signed all of her money over to him, so no one has any reason not to like Nathan. Nathan gets up and leaves, telling Daniel that he's not angry at his cousin Joshua.

Millicent lays on her bed, crying. Daniel comes into her room and she tells him to go away. He asks why she's crying, and she asks him to leave her alone. He asks if it's because Nathan went into town, and she says she knows he'll be back. Daniel offers to give her back the money.

Later, Nathan is back at Collinwood, where Naomi questions him about his absence. She says he's been drinking, and he says he had business in town. Nathan brings up the tower, and Naomi tells him not to change the subject. Daniel points out Millicent is crying, and Nathan says she'll be alright. Daniel says if anything happens to her, he won't have anyone. He tells Nathan that Millicent will have to handle his money until he's of age. And if anything happened to her, someone else would - perhaps Nathan, since he married her. Nathan says that nothing will happen to her, as he's going to look after her.

In her bedroom, Millicent asks how Nathan could leave her on their wedding day. He tells her he went into town to get a gift for her. She says she knows he doesn't really love her.

She says that he told her he would love her even if she was penniless. He agrees. She reluctantly tells him that she signed over all her money to her brother Daniel. Nathan laughs. He says that now neither of them ever has to worry about the money again. He asks if she believes he loves her, and she says yes. He tells her to make herself pretty so they can go down for dinner.

She goes to her dressing table and he picks up one of her earrings off of the nightstand. She returns to him and he asks her to put on the earrings she was wearing in the morning. She goes to the end table and sees that one is missing. He tells her he hopes she hasn't lost it, and says she mustn't be upset. She calmly says she's not upset. He reiterates that she's seemingly very upset. Suddenly, dogs start howling. She goes to the window and sees a light on in the tower.

She points it out and Nathan tells her he sees no light in the tower. She says there is a light, and he tells her to keep calm, adding he believes there's a light if she says there is. She screams out as he looks on with a sly smile.

Our thoughts

John: Did anyone else think Joshua stole Nathan's wardrobe this morning?

Christine: I think it's telling that this was the first wedding that wasn't held on the estate. I particularly enjoyed when Joshua blatantly refused to toast the happy couple.

John: Joshua thought he was so clever hiding Barnabas in the tower room, but it appears to be the one room of the house visible from every window on the estate!

Christine: It may not help that Joshua spends a lot of time staring up at it, and then has weak explanations for why it's lit up. Why does Barnabas have candles burning up there anyway? Is he reading a book in his coffin or just pacing around feeling famished? I wonder if Ben will be tasked with lugging the massive coffin to another room in the mansion now that Forbes thinks he knows the secret in the tower room.

John: Nathan isn't wasting any time playing with Millicent's head. Of course, she's not the brightest member of the Collins clan, so it shouldn't be too difficult to lead her to a nervous breakdown.

Christine: Considering it only took him one scene to effectively gaslight her, I think he'll be living high on the hog in no time.
