Dark Shadows Episode 1006 5/4/70

Angelique finds the lever to open the secret vault. Inside is a wide-eyed skeleton! Angelique takes a candelabra and brings it into the vault, but the candles are blown out. She tells Dameon to watch closely as she re-lights the candles. As she lights the seventh, he appears before her. She tells him she gave him every opportunity to leave her alone, but he refused. He says she got Bruno and Trask to do it for her. She says Bruno loved her the way she wanted to be loved. Dameon says that no man loved her like he did. She tells him to keep looking into her eyes. She says she understands he wants revenge, but he can't upset her plans. He says he won't rest until Quentin knows the truth about her. She says she summoned him, and she can send him away. He tells her the candles have no power over him. She tells him to try to move, to snuff the candles out. He realizes that he can't move.

She says the seventh candle made him appear, and when it's snuffed out he'll return to his tomb, never to be seen again. He begs her not to. She says goodbye and snuffs out the candle. Dameon disappears, leaving just his skeleton behind. Angelique laughs, says Quentin will be hers again, and nothing can stop her.

At the Eagle, Yaeger bothers Buffie at work. She tells him she has to make a living. He says he'll just stand there and watch her. He says he hopes she's not going around saying nasty things about him, like she did with Cyrus.

A stranger arrives and introduces himself to Yaeger as Larry Chase—Chris Collins' partner. He adds that Chris is Cyrus' lawyer. Yeager tells Buffie to get Chase a drink, and Chase says he doesn't drink while doing business. Chase says he wants to know why Cyrus is putting so much money in his name. He says it was partial payment for services rendered relating to his experiments, but he doesn't believe it. Yaeger asks how someone could blackmail Cyrus. No one could dig up dirt on him, mocking him as a vegetable—a cloistered bore. Chase tells Yaeger that he's not only arrogant and disgusting, he's a model of ingratitude. Yaeger says he just speaks the truth. Chase says he's going to see Cyrus tonight, and will tell him what Yaeger thinks of him. Yaeger adds that he doesn't think he'll see Cyrus tonight. He invites Chase to try to convince Cyrus to change his mind. Chase tears up the documents he brought Yaeger to sign. Yaeger tells him there will be trouble if he ever gets in his way again.

As he leaves, Gladstone arrives. Chase goes to the bar and orders a scotch. He asks Buffie if she's interested in Yaeger, and what she knows about him. She says she doesn't really know him at all. He asks if she's just afraid to talk about him, and bids her goodnight. After he leaves, Gladstone picks up the torn document off of Chase's table and slips it into his jacket.

Yaeger returns to the lab. He removes the potion from the safe. While he doesn't want to be Cyrus again, he knows he has to bring the lawyer in line. He takes a swig and grimaces, and reverts to Cyrus.

Cyrus is working in the lab when there's a knock at the door. He goes upstairs and lets Buffie in. She asks why he told Yaeger the awful things about her. He says he didn't tell Yaeger anything awful. She asks why he didn't just tell him the truth, and he claims he did, but that Yaeger is jealous. He offers to talk to him, and she says if he does, he's liable to beat her up again. Cyrus is shocked to hear it. He says he didn't know Yeager could get that angry. There's another knock on the door and he rushes her out the back door. She doesn't notice Gladstone in the shadows.

Chase tells Cyrus that he's appalled at what he's doing. Cyrus asks if he got his signature for the bank account, and Chase says he did, and then he ripped it up. He asks why Cyrus needs Yaeger. Cyrus reiterates that he wants the bank account opened in Yaeger's name, and he also wants him to change his will so that everything goes to Yaeger in the event of his death or disappearance. Chase asks why, and Cyrus says he has his reasons. Chase says he's not just his attorney, he's his friend. Cyrus implores him to make the requested changes as soon as possible.

Buffie is fiixing her hair when there's a knock on her door. It's Gladstone. He tells her he saw her at the Eagle. He says he wants to ask her a few questions, and she invites him in. He asks her about her relationship with Cyrus. She accuses him of being a spy for Yaeger. He explains that she's a closer friend to Yaeger than he is. She tells him he should go. He notices the painting behind her, and asks her where she got it. She says a gentleman friend. He asks if it was Cyrus, and she says that it's not any of his business, but she got it from Yaeger. He's surprised, and bids her goodnight as he leaves.

Gladstone comes to see Cyrus at his lab. He points out that Cyrus is always burning the midnight oil. He asks Cyrus about their little secret. Cyrus doesn't understand what he's referring to. He explains that Cyrus led him to the truth that he and John Yaeger are one and the same.

Our thoughts

John: It looks like they gouged the eyes out of our wide-eyed skeleton! Of course, he still looks particularly handsome in the black and white kinescope...

Christine: It's really hard to tell from the kinescope, and we didn't get a very good look at our bony old friend yesterday, but it is pretty creepy to think that Bruno may have gouged out Dameon's eyes either before or after he killed him. It was somewhat amusing to see that Angelexis is powerful enough to freeze a ghost in place, and that a dead thing would be so terrified to be unable to move.

John: I was kind of hoping that Cyrus would be wearing Yaeger's clothes when the lawyer came to see him. It turns out they had other plans for giving away his secret.

Christine: A new lawyer is in town with little explanation for why he's standing in for Chris. After a bit of research, I discovered that Episode 1001 was Don Briscoe's last episode. I wonder how or if they will explain his disappearance.

John: So Gladstone figured everything out thanks to the painting! Not that he was providing a compound that facilitated changing someone's physical being... that appears to have just been a coincidence. Will this trigger Cyrus to do a Hulk-like change into John Yaeger? Can Gladstone possibly survive the night? I guess we'll find out tomorrow!

Christine: I expect nosy old Gladstone is going to want in on the experiment and will try to cut a deal. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Are the actors getting bored, or is this just another day of having fun with the magnifying lens?

Dark Shadows Episode 1005 5/1/70

Quentin finds himself before Dameon Edwards who says he wants him to know how it will end. He leads him to a door and opens the door. Inside, Quentin's body is hanging from the rafters. Quentin picks up a note saying, "I had to do this to be with the one I love." Dameon laughs at him.

Quentin wakes from his nightmare and goes to pour himself a drink. He stops and calls to Dameon, asking if it's all a dream. He decides to go upstairs to the attic. After he does, Dameon comes out of the drawing room.

Quentin searches the attic for Dameon, asking what he's trying to tell him.

Hannah tells Angelique that the Tarot cards told her nothing. She adds that their silence frightens her. Angelique says that she'll tell her what to do. Hannah points out that she looks frightened. She says she's annoyed, by Dameon, whose presence she feels in the house. Angelique reminds Hannah to only call her Alexis. Quentin comes in and asks Hannah when she arrived. He asks to speak to her alone, and they leave the room together. Angelexis tells Dameon that she feels him near, and that they will meet very soon.

Cyrus tells Gladstone that he needs another delivery of the compound tomorrow. Gladstone asks him if he's still unwilling to discuss his project. He then asks about the difficulty with memory he originally experienced, and Cyrus says it is working quite successfully.

Staring at a brick wall, Gladstone laments the absence of the painting that used to hang there. Cyrus agrees that it's gone, and says he moved it. He escorts Gladstone out and locks the door. He then opens the package with the compound, and prepares another dose.

Quentin shows Hannah where Dameon showed him hanging from the rafters. He tells her to summon Dameon's ghost so he can find out what he's trying to tell him. She says she can't help him. Quentin demands that she summon him, and she says she doesn't have the power, but she doesn't need it because he's here, and screams. The lights go out, and Quentin looks around the room for him.

They come back up, and he sees Dameon's ghost. He asks what he's trying to tell him. After an unsuccessful game of charades, Quentin asks how he can understand him. Quentin asks if the prophecy about his death is true, and Dameon disappears.

Cyrus visits Alexis to check in after what they did to Angelique's body. Alexis tells him that they did the right thing.

Hannah and Quentin come downstairs. He makes her swear she won't say anything to Alexis. Cyrus and Alexis come out, and she says he's going away for a few days. Alexis and Hannah head upstairs, and Quentin takes Cyrus into the drawing room. He tells him that the spirit of Dameon is back in the house. Cyrus apologizes, explaining he's leaving for work reasons. Quentin then brings up the night Cyrus left abruptly. He says he saw his note, and Amy found an early copy in different handwriting. He asks if he's imagining it. Cyrus says his first note was scribbled illegibly, and Quentin starts to disagree, and then tells him not to worry about it. Cyrus leaves and Quentin pulls out the two notes.

Angelique tells Hannah that Dameon won't be able to tell Quentin the truth. Hannah asks how they'll stop him. Angelique tells her to bring her the Candles of the Seven Secrets. Hannah says she can feel Dameon's presence. Angelique tells Dameon that they will meet face to face at his grave.

Cyrus debates helping his friends, or becoming John Yaeger... He chooses what's behind door number two and drinks the potion.

Hannah and Angelique go into the basement of Collinwood. She says they're near the vault.

Yaeger starts out, and runs into Gladstone. He says Cyrus was expecting a delivery, and Yaeger says that was tomorrow.  Gladstone asks what his relationship to Cyrus, and Yaeger says he's his assistant. He asks him to call Sabrina to accept the delivery. Yaeger says he can just take it from him. Gladstone tells Yaeger that if he's threatened, his cooperation will cease. He bids Yaeger goodnight, and leaves with the compound.

Our thoughts

John: If a ghost is alone in a room, does anyone care? I couldn't quite tell if that was our wide-eyed skeleton, or ugly skeleton bride today. But now that Angelique has summoned him, maybe we'll finally learn the truth about him.

Christine: It looked like a combo skeleton to me! It's a real mystery how Dameon's skeleton is able to remain standing, and it appears that someone did a real number on his clavicles and ribcage! Was that the work of Bruno or someone else? Perhaps we'll find out.

John: Do you think they considered that shooting up at the rafters would also show off the stage lighting? Oops!

Christine: The cameraman must have been immersed in the story and forgot it was being staged.

John: Yaeger don't give a hoot! Rough language for such a tough guy! When he stuttered, I couldn't help but think he caught himself just before letting some profanity slip out!

Christine: That's what it sounded like to me, too. It seems that Cyrus has a Yaeger addiction. What will happen when his dealer, Mr. Gladstone, decides to stop supplying him with his fix? I am surprised that nosy Mr. Gladstone was unable to recognize Cyrus' voice coming out of Yaeger's mouth.

Dark Shadows Episode 1004 4/30/70

Hannah says Fred is dead. Angelique says that this is how she lives now, and this is how Quentin will live with her, for eternity. She asks Hannah if she's frightened of her. She says anyone would be. She tells Hannah to refer to her as Alexis, and then demands that she dispose of Fred's body.

Hannah asks what they should do if anyone saw her leading Fred to her, and Angelique explains that he's a loaner and drifter, and won't be missed by anyone. She tells Hannah she's a coward. Hannah reminds her that she'll need warmth again, and she wants no part of it. Angelique says that her curiosity has turned to terror now that she knows someone who has returned from the dead. Hannah says that Dameon's spirit will not let her do what she plans. Angelique says that nothing will keep her from having Quentin forever.

Trask tells Bruno that he was wrong—Angelique's body was in the tomb. It has since been burned. He tells Bruno that they're in trouble. Dameon's ghost is in the house because of them, not Angelique. Bruno tells him to stop simpering about the ghost until they have a reason. He accepts that the woman in Collinwood truly is Alexis, and adds that he didn't think he could be fooled so easily.

Angelexis returns to Collinwood and finds a telegram for Quentin. She opens it and reads it. It's from Maggie's sister, suggesting that if he calls her, he could talk her into returning as the time is right for her to return to Collinwood. Quentin calls to Alexis from the top of the stairs. She hides the telegram and tells him she was just thinking of him. He offers her a drink, and with one hand behind her back, she accepts his offer. When he steps into the drawing room, she crumples the telegram and tosses it into the fireplace.

Quentin hands her a drink. She says that Angelique loved the house, which upsets Quentin. She asks if he'd prefer to speak of Maggie, and that appears to get under his skin as well. She asks if he loves her, and he asks why she's bringing it up. Quentin explains that Maggie is an innocent child. Angelexis says that even as a child, Angelique was quite sophisticated. She picks up a statue and as she places it on the mantle, she asks what he plans to do. He says he'll wait for Maggie to contact him. He asks why she put the statue where she did, adding that it's exactly where Angelique placed it.

She asks if he still doubts who she is, and he assures her that he does not. They then hear a voice saying, "You know who I am." The lights go out, and Angelexis clutches Quentin. The voice then laughs. Quentin turns on a light and asks Dameon what he wants. The voice says, "She knows," but Angelexis denies it.

She says the ghost has her confused with Angelique. Quentin says she's implying that Edwards hates Angelique, but then dismisses that, believing that she's Alexis. He tells her that she could leave, and she says that she's going to stay. Trask enters, and Quentin tells him that Dameon Edwards is back. He asks Trask to explain why he can't rest. Trask tells him it's as much of a mystery to him. Quentin says he should think about it, and that he'll be around if Trask decides to say something more.

Trask goes into the drawing room, and speaks to Dameon. He asks for a sign that he's being heard. He doesn't get one, but he swears he didn't kill him. He says he should be after Bruno.

Bruno sneaks into Alexis' room. She asks him what he wants. He compliments her looks, and says it's proof how much he misses her sister. He says that she put passion in his music, and he critics don't realize it's gone yet. He tells her that he came to apologize. He truly believed that Angelique had returned, but he was wrong. He asks if they can be friends, and she asks if he can be anyone's friend. He kisses her hand and tells her that Angelique found him charming. She says that in time, she might.

Trask begs Quentin to stop asking him about Dameon. He says if he knew anything he'd tell him.

Angelique stares up at her portrait. She then picks up a phone.

Hannah returns home as her phone rings. She answers it, and it's Angelique, checking to see if she finished her job. She tells her to come to Collinwood to deal with Dameon Edwareds. She says that she will exorcise the ghost through Hannah, and everyone will think that Hannah was responsible.

Quentin is asleep on the couch in the drawing room. In a dream, he hears someone calling to him. He asks where he wants him to go. The voice says he's at the last door he will ever enter, and tells him to follow his spirit. Quentin walks upstairs. The voice tells him that he is waiting. He beckons Quentin to come to the door. Quentin finds himself before Dameon Edwards who says he wants him to know how it will end. He leads him to a door and opens the door. Inside, Quentin's body is hanging from the rafters. Quentin picks up a note saying, "I had to do this to be with the one I love." Dameon laughs at him.

Our thoughts

John: If Fred was a loner and a drifter, what the heck was he doing in Collinwood, how is it that Quentin knew him, and what was with his being so cozy with Angelexis? I feel bad for Hannah that she was left to clean up Angelique's mess. Fred wasn't a small guy. Thankfully, she seems to have the same high-speed grave-digging skills as all other residents of Collinsport.

Christine: I really wish we could have seen Aunt Hannah at work, dragging Fred's corpse out to be buried, digging a hole, dropping him in and covering him up without getting a speck of dirt on her dress or putting a single hair out of place. The woman is truly amazing! Portrait watchers should note that the Mustache Man hangs in parallel time at Hannah's hip 70s pad.

John: Wasn't Bruno just crying about the ghost of Dameon haunting him? Funny to see him berating Trask for basically doing the same!

Christine: I'm wondering if Angelique has OCD, being so particular about placing a statue in an exact spot on the mantel that she couldn't resist doing it, knowing that it could expose her for who she truly is.

John: So we still have no real understanding of who Dameon is, exactly how he died, or why he's doing what he's doing, but at least he showed us how things are going to end for parallel-Quentin—swinging at the end of a rope!

Christine: We also don't know why he's so happy about Quentin hanging himself. Is this how Angelique intends to keep Quentin through eternity? That's a plan that seems like it could backfire.
