Jeff dreams, with a gun pointed at Nathan Forbes. Forbes tells him to go ahead and shoot him. Forbes laughs at him for trying to be a hero. He tells Jeff that it's too late. Jeff pulls the trigger, but nothing happens to Forbes, who continues laughing. He explains he's already dead, and Jeff yells out in his sleep.
Joe hears Jeff screaming, and goes in to wake him. Jeff sees him, calls him Forbes, and tries to strangle him. Joe fends him off and asks him if he's crazy. Jeff says he thought he was Nathan Forbes, who he was trying to kill in a dream. He apologizes, and Joe says he's glad Maggie didn't try to wake him up. Joe asks why he doesn't like him. Jeff realizes it's because he reminds him of Forbes, and that means he really knew him. Jeff apologizes to Joe again, and tells him to go back to bed. Jeff realizes he knew people Vicki met in the past, and that he's not Jeff Clark, he's Peter Bradford.
Blair brings the portrait of Angelique into the drawing room. He commands her to guide her to the tree where she was burned so he can find her ashes and restore her to life. He hears a woman screaming, and says she has heard him, and will obey, as Vicki walks in.
She asks where he found her painting. He says Roger let him borrow it to hang in his room. Vicki explains it belongs to her. She asks why it's faded, and he says it must have been the sunlight, or perhaps it was cleaned with the wrong chemicals. He asks Vicki if he can do her a favor. He says he'd pay to have it restored, as he's very fond of it. She says she likes it the way it is. She reminds him it is her painting, and asks to have it. He gives it to her, and she starts upstairs. He asks if he could borrow it just for one night, for sentimental reasons. He says it reminds her of his sister, and it would make him feel more comfortable while she's missing. She says she doesn't want to, and takes it upstairs. Blair is angry for being thwarted.
Vicki goes to bed with the painting in her room.
Blair is pacing in the drawing room when Roger returns home. He says they've had no luck finding Cassandra. It's as if she vanished into thin air. Blair suggests they have a drink, and says that she will return to him as quietly as she went away. He tells Roger he had an interesting interaction with Vicki. He says she's attractive, but he got an impression that she didn't like him. He says Cassandra had the same feeling. Roger explains that Vicki believes she lived in the past, in 1795, after they held a seance in Collinwood. Blair asks what happened to her. Roger explains she thought she was condemned and hanged as a witch by a Reverend Trask. Blair finds the story curious. He asks what Trask did to her. Roger says he persecuted her endlessly, and then sent her to the gallows. Blair asks if he tried to exorcise her, and Roger says he tied her to a tree somewhere on the estate. Roger retires for the evening, and Blair realizes Trask exorcised Angelique in the same spot that he did Vicki. And Vicki can lead him to the tree.
Downstairs, Blair commands Vicki to hear and obey him. He says she will rise from her bed and leave Collinwood, and make her way to the tree where Trask exorcised her. In her room. Vicki gets up and begins to sleepwalk. She makes her way downstairs and goes out the front door. Blair follows behind her. Vicki leads him to a tree with ropes tied around it. Blair realizes the ashes of Angelique must be near. He tells her to return to Collinwood, where she will wake having forgotten everything of the evening. After she's gone, he calls for the spirit of Angelique. He then calls upon the powers of darkness to return her to life. A woman's screams can be heard.
Our thoughts
John: Jeff has a moment of clarity, and just like that, he's Peter Bradford. I wonder how long this can last?
Christine: It's odd it should be giving him a moment of bliss today when it was giving him a wedgie last week to hear Vicki suggest it.
John: I have to say, Blair's facial hair is something to marvel at. That mustache, those eyebrows, that hair. He is a fantastic, creepy character. You'd think his looks alone would be enough to put everyone in Collinwood on edge.
Christine: He is a fabulous addition to the cast! Give him a pointed goatee, pitchfork and horns, and slip him behind somebody's dream curse door! Blair confirmed that Angelique was exorcised by Trask, which I didn't believe he had the power to do, as I've always assumed Trask was a charlatan. In that case, why wasn't he able to exorcise Angelique back in Episode 400?
John: It was nice to see Vicki stand up to Blair, not letting him take her portrait of Angelique. Too bad he was able to manipulate her so easily to lead him to Angelique's ashes...
Christine: It's kind of strange that Trask has one special witch exorcising tree that he always uses, or that Vicki would remember which one it was. If Blair could make Vicki "listen and obey" so easily, then why didn't he just make her give him the portrait instead of getting all pissy when she refused to loan it to him?
