Shadows on the Wall: Episode 80

Before continuing, you may enjoy revisiting our original 50th anniversary summary and commentary: https://dsb4idie.blogspot.com/2016/10/episode-80-101466.html

Then & Now

Christine: Liz says she wishes everything at Collinwood were as all right as Carolyn's hair, but if that were the case, there'd be nothing of interest for us to watch. Aside from Carolyn's hair, that is.

Joe says that if he didn't happen to be in love with Carolyn, he thinks he'd be in love with Vicki. Looks like he's already considering his other options.

John: Joe would be wise to do that. Neither Vicki nor Maggie are as high maintenance as Carolyn!

Roger going to the beach to look for the missing pen sure suggests that's what he did the night of Bill's murder, between leaving the house and going to his office for the meeting — which sure seems to make him the most likely suspect.

One more thing I loved about today's episode is how Liz schools Roger in front of Joe; making it crystal clear whose running things in and around Collinwood.

Shadows on the Wall

Christine: Vicki appears to be using her newfound expensive fountain pen to write one of her many letters to herself that we heard about in Episode 66.

John: I'm surprised the writers didn't have Carolyn notice Vicki using the pen first, giving her one more reason to be jealous (because Carolyn wouldn't believe Vicki found it on the beach — she'd assume Burke gave it to her!).

What caught your eye this time around?

I can see why Roger is concerned about the pen, but I don't see why everyone else acts as if Victoria found the Holy Grail. I guess pens were real status symbols back in the 1960s. You knew you were somebody when you had your own fountain pen. Kids in orphanages dreamed of owning their own pen someday. What did Victoria use to write with before she found the pen - a quill? or maybe a golf pencil? I am trying to picture the writer's rooms dicussing this week's storyline- "shall we include a ghost? No, I have a better idea - let's make it about a pen and for good measure we can have Carolyn doing her good Carolyn/bad Carolyn routine again."
