Julia tells Barnabas she had a dream in which he called to her from the woods, telling her that she was right, and it was a mistake for him to go to Nicholas Blair's house. She says that then he died. Barnabas. He tells her that it was just a manifestation of her concern about their plan. He says it's too late, and that the plan is already in motion. He says Stokes is already on his way to Blair's house.
Blair fixes two drinks when there's a knock at his door. He invites in Professor Stokes, feigning surprise and offering him a sherry. Stokes extends an invitation to Blair to attend a dinner party hosted by Barnabas that night. Blair says he is puzzled, considering he and Barnabas don't know each other very well. Blair adds that he doesn't feel that Barnabas likes him. Stokes says he felt the same when they first met, but now they are quite good friends.
Blair asks why Barnabas sent Stokes to invite him rather than call. Stokes explains that Barnabas couldn't call because he doesn't have a phone. He doesn't have modern technology—even electricity—in the old house. Blair says he'll have to ask him about that and Stokes notes that he's rather touchy about the subject. Blair asks what time he should be there, and Stokes tells him 10pm—a late dinner. Blair agrees. Stokes asks about Blair's house, and he is given a complete tour.
Stokes thanks Blair for the tour of his home, and says he will see him tonight.
Barnabas is pacing in the drawing room when Stokes returns. Stokes says he was at Blair's for over three hours. He provides a detailed floor plan that he created after his visit.
Barnabas asks about the third floor, and Stokes says he only uses it for storage. Stokes points out the room in which he believes Eve is staying in, because he smelled cologne.
Barnabas takes the map. He says they will be here to greet Blair at 10. He asks Julia to arrive a few minutes late, using Liz' condition as an excuse. She will say that Liz asked to see Barnabas. Stokes says he'll leave his keys in his car for Barnabas to use. Barnabas says they'll have to keep Blair occupied. Julia expresses concern, due to her dream the night before. Stokes assures her that Blair doesn't suspect them. Barnabas brazenly explains that Nicholas has no idea what will happen.
Blair watches the discussion between Stokes, Barnabas and Julia on his magic mirror.
That evening, Stokes describes the history of the old house to Blair. He adds that the house was lived in until 1796, and then sat empty for several hundred years until the arrival of Barnabas. Barnabas brings in alcohol, and they toast. Stokes asks where Julia is, when there's a knock on the front door. Julia comes in, apologizing for the delay. She explains that his cousin Liz has taken a turn for the worse. Blair asks if she's okay, and Barnabas explains that she has a concern that she's going to die. Julia says that Liz asked to see him. Barnabas asks if it can wait, and Blair suggests that he not let his presence keep him from visiting his cousin. Julia slips Barnabas the hypodermic as Barnabas leaves. Blair asks about Liz, and Julia says they are all concerned about her.
Barnabas arrives at Blair's house, and enters.
Stokes is describing Collins family history when Blair gets up suggesting that he should have joined Barnabas. He says he and Roger have become friends. Julia tells him Roger had already retired, and Blair agrees to see him in the morning.
Outside of Eve's bedroom, Barnabas prepares the hypodermic. Inside her room, he pulls back the sheet to find her bed empty. He hears someone say hello, and he turns to face Angelique.
Our thoughts
John: Barnabas says he is hardly a psychologist. Um, or not a psychologist at all, Barnabas?
Christine: How often will Barnabas get fooled by the pillows made to look like a sleeping body in the bed? Julia pulled that trick on him back in Episode 290.
John: I have a question for Professor Stokes. Why exactly would Eve be wearing cologne? It's not like someone took her shopping in Collinsport. And where would it otherwise come from? It's not like she's holed up in Josette's fully stocked bedroom at the old house.
Christine: I'm hardly Professor Stokes, but I think Eve is wearing cologne because Adam never bathes and the cologne helps cover up his stench. I'm sure Nicholas would have no problem securing it for her. More importantly, when did Barnabas learn to drive? Did Julia teach him? I would have liked to have seen those scenes! Also, why didn't Barnabas use the poison filled hypodermic on Angelique?
John: So we finally get the long awaited reveal to Barnabas that Angelique is back! It seems like things are about to change in Collinwood as there's now no doubt about Blair's supernatural leanings...
Christine: I look forward to seeing how their reunion goes on Monday! I was hoping Stokes would notice the Mustache Man portrait at Blair's and remark on how he had the exact same portrait at his domicile. I love how the view from the front door of the House by the Sea is always changing. I also love how Barnabas keeps calling it "Blair House."

I was quite surprised that Barnabas so easily dismissed Julia's dream. After the whole dream curse thing, I'd think he would be more concerned. Also hard to believe that Professor Stokes was so easily duped by Nicholas, especially since he figured out the whole Danielle Roget scenario.
ReplyDeleteIt's comical how Barnabas keeps falling for that old trick! Third time, second time by Angelique!
