Carolyn asks Chris why he stopped the seance. He tells her that he was afraid for her. He then admits that something came over him. Carolyn asks him if he's ever heard of someone named Magda. She then says that she's still there. He tells her to stop all the nonsense. She asks what Magda was saying when he stopped the seance. He says she was talking about a curse. She asks why that upset him, and he denies it.

Amy wakes up David and tells him that Quentin's angry. She says that something has happened that made him very angry. David asks what, and she says she doesn't know, but since he has the telephone, she wanted to try him again. David picks up the phone and hears nothing. Then he says he hears breathing. Amy asks for the phone, and Quentin speaks to her. She hangs it up, and says that Quentin says, "She will try to stop us." She also adds that he wants them to find him tonight.

Chris prepares to leave as Roger returns home. He and Carolyn step outside as Roger goes into the drawing room. A book throws itself to the floor, and Roger picks it up, finding a letter inside.

Carolyn comes in and he shows her the letter written to his father. It refers to his father, Jamison, as the only one who can help someone named Oscar. He says it was written by someone named Quentin. He describes how the book fell open on its own.

Carolyn explains that Magda is responsible. He doesn't know who she's referring to, but she explains that Magda's spirit is in the house, and she wanted them to find that letter. He says he doesn't know what the letter means. Carolyn yells, "Stop them." He asks her what she means, and she says she doesn't know why she said it. She adds that it must have been Magda speaking through her, warning them that someone was in danger.

Amy says she knows where Quentin wants them to go—to the storage room. She says she wants to find Quentin and see a real ghost. David says he hears something, and Roger and Carolyn's voices can be heard in the hall. He tells Amy to hide. Roger checks in on him, asking if he's alright. David says he woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Roger turns off the light and tells him to go back to sleep. He then tells David to come to him if he needs anything tonight. After he leaves, David tells Amy his father was acting very strange. Amy says they had better make sure everyone is asleep before they go looking for Quentin.

Roger comes downstairs and tells Carolyn he's no longer worried about David.

Later that night, David and Amy go looking for Quentin in the West Wing. In the hall, the flashlight flies out of David's hands. He picks it up, and then he tells Amy that a hand is pushing him backwards. He says the hand is gone, but reminds her that a woman was going to try and stop them. Amy says she's scared, and David says he's a little scared. She says he's braver than she is, and he points out that she's a girl. He tries the door but it's locked. He tells Amy they can enter the West Wing through a secret passage, but she can't tell anyone about it.

Roger tells Carolyn that it's late, and they should go to bed. David and Amy hear them and hide. After they've gone to bed, David and Amy emerge, and go into the drawing room. David moves a chair, and opens a secret panel. They go inside and close the door. The chair he moved mysteriously slides back into place.

In the West Wing, a large clock falls over in front of David and Amy. She asks if they should go back, and he says they can't let her stop them. The enter the storage room and Amy calls to Quentin. They're about to give up when the door slams shut behind them. David says it's stuck, and they're locked in.

Our thoughts

John: Who is this imposter playing Roger as a caring father all of a sudden? Even David didn't buy it!

Christine: The last time he doted on David was in Episode 192 after he found out David's mother tried to immolate him, so he's able to show he cares when David's life is in danger.

John: David could use some work acting with ghosts. The flashlight flip, and struggle with 'she who was not there' weren't exactly convincing.

Christine: Give the kid a break! I am more bothered by the fact that Amy the Fearless who wanted to meet ghosts is suddenly trembling and claiming that she's not as brave as David is. His response that it's because she's a girl is a little tone deaf during the Women's Liberation Movement! Also, what is that strange sculpture behind them? It looks like something you'd find in Little Shop of Horrors.

John: I was sure hoping Amy was right about finding Quentin tonight. Oh, well. Maybe by Friday.

Christine: Chris and Carolyn are off to a rocky start in their fast friendship, with him irritated by her incessant questioning over his reasons for stopping the seance. It was funny to see her fretting while Roger busied himself with a book. I wonder why the Collins family doesn't own a TV.

Roger and his Kitten, enjoying a quiet evening together.

  1. In the 1960's many small towns still did not have TV reception. Since Bangor is supposedly 50 miles away and cable TV had not been invented yet, there was no reason for them to own a TV. Ah, life in the 60's.

  2. David and Amy in their kiddie version of Ghost Hunters🤣
