Joe offers to take Angelique to the sheriff. She says Blair will try to harm her, and asks if Joe will protect her. He says he will, if it comes to that. She starts to cry, and he says Blair won't harm her. She asks if she can put her head on his shoulder, and he allows it. He tells her she'll be alright, and she takes a bite out of his neck.

Joe is passed out on the couch with two bites on his neck when Blair returns. He asks if she's satisfied, and she tells him that she's glad he selected Joe, as she likes him. He says when Joe wakes, he will send him home, and he'll return whenever she needs him. He tells her to leave as Joe wakes up. He sits up, and Blair tells him he had better cover his neck. Joe realizes Blair knows what happened, and asks what he's going to do about it. He tells Blair Angelique says he's keeping her prisoner.

He asks her to join them, and she does. He asks her if she's a prisoner, and she says that he's not. Joe asks why she said that he was, and she explains that was because she felt like a prisoner, before he came to see her. She asks him if he wants to be there, and Joe says yes. She tells him not to tell anyone he had been there. Blair reminds her that it's almost dawn, and suggests that she go. He then tells Joe it's time for him to go, too. He asks how he can explain it. He says he was supposed to see Barnabas, and he had a date with Maggie. Blair says he's sure he'll come up with a reasonable explanation. Joe says Maggie mustn't know about this, and Blair assures him it will be their little secret.

Julia is reviewing paperwork when Willie arrives with the last of the paperwork from Lang's lab. He tells her that they're crazy to do it, and she says they've got to go through with it. He brings the materials to the basement, and Barnabas returns home. She asks where he's been, and he says he went to Collinwood to call Joe. She asks why he wants to see Joe, and he mentioned Joe was supposed to come see him after he met with Blair. He's sure something strange is going on.

Joe can't get Angelique out of his mind. He wonders what she's doing to him. He realizes that he's got to stay away from her. There's a knock at his door, and he lets Barnabas in. He tells Joe he's as pale as a ghost. Joe says perhaps he left the hospital too soon. Barnabas asks if he went to Blair's house. Joe says he did, and he just wanted to get acquainted. Joe's phone rings, and Barnabas asks if he's going to answer it. He says he doesn't want to. Barnabas gives him grief, and Joe says it's Maggie, and he doesn't want to worry her.

Barnabas asks if he should send for a doctor, and Joe says he just needs rest. He tells Barnabas he wants to lie down for a bit, and Barnabas offers to help him if he needs it. He leaves him. Joe looks in the mirror at the bite marks on his neck.

Barnabas tells Julia he thinks there's more to Joe's illness than meets the eye. He asks Julia to examine him. She asks if she should drop her work on the experiment, and he says no, that's more important. Willie says he doesn't think he can rob a grave. Julia takes him downstairs as there's a knock at the door.

It's Blair to see Barnabas. He says he owes him an apology for depriving him of the company of his guest, Joe Haskell. He says he got him drunk telling stories about the sea. He says Joe's probably feeling quite ill today. He says Joe is a very interesting young man, but he wanted to stop by and apologize.

As the sun sets, Joe feels compelled to return to Angelique.

Barnabas tells Willie to hurry and get it over with. Willie asks what he should say if he gets caught, and Barnabas asks him who will be in a deserted graveyard at night. He sends Willie to go do his dirty work.

Angelique asks Blair if he summoned Joe, and he tells her that she needs to summon him on her own. She calls to him.

Joe hears her call, and tries to resist. He can't, because he needs and wants her. He leaves to find her.

Angelique calls to Joe to come to her through the forest to the house by the sea.

Willie is digging up a grave when Joe stumbles across him. He asks what he's doing. He realizes Willie is robbing a grave, and says he's taking him to the police.

Our thoughts

John: So Barnabas, of all people, doesn't recognize the signs of a vampire's victim anymore?

Christine: He should have suspected it even without seeing him, since he knows Jennings was the victim of a vampire. He made no mention of going to see Joe to Nicholas, so I wonder if he suspects his story about getting Joe drunk, which should give him a clue that Blair has something to do with the arrival of a new vampire in town.

John: Won't Maggie be more concerned about Joe if she can't reach him than if he just tells her he's not feeling well? I thought for sure she would show up at his place, and then I remembered she has the day off.

Christine: Tomorrow may still be today, so she may go looking for him yet. She may even demand that he return her quilt after ignoring her calls.

John: Willie seems like he's back under the vampire's spell. Do you think they gave any consideration to finding a fresh cadaver for him to work with? The area he was digging didn't seem exactly modern. Fortunately, he was just what the doctor ordered when it came to breaking Joe's spell... or was he? I think we may see a reversal tomorrow...

Christine: Can't wait for Adam to meet his decayed girlfriend with the Abby Normal brain. I don't think he would have approved of having stepbrother Willie in charge of getting his bride's parts. It's interesting that Blair knows more about being a vampire than Angelique, and has to instruct her on how to call her victim.

  1. If you leave out the mustache, that last picture give Humbert Astredo a real Roger Corman look. Which is fitting for a horror actor.

  2. John C., Houston, TX: I, too wondered why they chose to get a body from Eagle Hill. The cemetery that Dr. Lang said there had not been a burial in the last 50 years.

  3. Who says Barnabas didn't suspect Joe of being bit? Maybe he was hoping he wasn't.
