Barnabas compels Ben to write the first initial of the witch in the dust on a barrel. Ben writes a V.... and then crosses it to make an A, identifying Angelique as the witch. Barnabas says he knew when he heard her. He asks Ben to tell him everything he knows, and Ben says he can't, as she'll  hear him. Barnabas says he'll find a way to stop her. Barnabas asks him how much she's responsible for... whether she was responsible for Josette and Jeremiah. Barnabas realizes Angelique has been responsible for everything, including his illness, and curing him. Ben tells him that she can make anything happen. Barnabas realizes he killed Jeremiah because of a love potion. He asks why she would do all this, and Ben says it's because she loves him. Barnabas says she did it out of hate—and he'll teach her  the meaning of hate. Ben tells him to be careful. Barnabas tells Ben to stay where he is until he's taken care of Angelique.

Barnabas returns to the old house, and calls for Angelique. He prepares two drinks, and prepares to add a drop of poison to one of them.

Angelique comes downstairs and tells him she's glad he's back, as she's frightened when she's alone. She asked him what he did in the village, and he tells her he did nothing. He offers her a drink, and adds the poison to one of the small glasses he prepared.

He hands her a glass and before she takes a sip, she asks if they can go away on a wedding trip. Before she drinks, there's a knock at the door.

Barnabas opens the door and his mother is there to check in on him, mentioning how Ben escaped. She wanted to be sure he's okay. Angelique invites her in for a drink, and offers her the sherry Barnabas prepared. He knocks it out of her hand to prevent her from drinking the poison, and as Angelique takes the glass away, she smells it, noticing something strange about it.

Naomi tells Barnabas that a package arrived for him from France. Angelique returns, and Naomi mentions that Ben was in Abigail's room. When Angelique asks why, Barnabas asks her if she already knows. He mentions Ben was stealing a ribbon for some reason. Angelique offers to escort Naomi to her carriage, and Barnabas removes a knife from a hidden compartment.

Barnabas stares at a portrait of Josette that was in the package from France.

Angelique comes downstairs and sees him with it. He explains it was a wedding present. Angelique asks why he's staring at it after what she did to him. He asks if she fell in love, or if she was under a spell. Angelique asks if he's still in love with her, and then laughs it off, blaming jealousy. He asks her what she thinks love is, and walks out on her.

At 2 a.m., Barnabas enters Angelique's room. He takes his knife and stabs the form lying in her bed.

Our thoughts

John: I was hoping for a little more dramatic moment when Naomi had the poisoned glass of sherry, but Barnabas deflated the situation a little too quickly. I like to think Naomi would have thrown back the drink as soon as it was in her hand.

Christine: That really would have sucked for Barnabas to have inadvertently killed his mom. Angelique may have suspected the drink was poisoned as it was obviously a different color than Barnabas' sherry, and she kept getting a funny face when she lifted it to her mouth to drink. She must have wanted to see what Barnabas would do if his mom tried to drink it.

John: I understand the original portrait of Josette didn't look like Maggie Evans, but shouldn't this one at least look a little bit like her?

Christine: I think the portrait is too iconic to change. Remember the first time Josette's ghost walked out of it in Episode 70? Also, it would make it more difficult for Barnabas to make Vicki into his incarnation of Josette if it looked exactly like Maggie Evans.

John: Barnabas kills again! Or does he?

Christine: I have a feeling Angelique will escape unharmed. Barnabas is not very good at killing...yet. He might not have killed his uncle if Jeremiah hadn't closed his eyes and stood perfectly still when Barnabas aimed his gun at him.

  1. Barnabas going to a woman's bed to kill her, that's sounds familiar, will it end the same way?!
