Roger comes downstairs and finds Vicki in the drawing room. He tells her that something woke him up and they have to discuss it immediately. He asks her if she and Jeff have set a wedding date. She says that they haven't set a specific date yet, and Roger tells her she must cancel it to prevent it from becoming the most tragic day in her life.

He says she mustn't marry Jeff, and she asks him to explain why. He tells her that he dreamed of her wedding. He describes the dream, and tells her that beneath the bridal veil was only a skull. She reminds him that he doesn't believe in dreams. She says there must be some other reason he feels this way, and asks him what it is about Jeff that upsets him. Vicki tells him that she and Jeff love each other and are going to get married. Roger says Jeff's behavior has been strange, and Vicki tells him that she has forgiven Jeff. Roger tells her that he doesn't trust Jeff. She asks why, and he says he can't tell her why. She tells him she's heard enough and storms off.

Julia returns to Collinwood, and finds Roger in the drawing room. She tells him she's worried about Barnabas. She tells Roger that Barnabas has disappeared.

Angelique and Barnabas are in what appears to be a basement. She tells him that he must stay there until they go away together. She then bites his neck.

Later, Barnabas reminds Angelique that she hates him, and she tells him that she doesn't hate him, just things he has done. She brings up a pledge they made in Martinique, but Barnabas denies such a thing occurred. She tells him that not all pledges are made with words.

He says she is going to turn him into what she is, and she confirms it. He tells her that Nicholas won't allow it. She explains that he won't know until it's too late. He tells her it's too late, explaining that he's going to die. She tells him that he's too weak to move, and then she disappears.

Vicki finds Julia in the drawing room. Julia tells her she's been up all night as Barnabas has gone missing.

Barnabas thinks about Vicki, and he tries to escape. He makes his way upstairs.

Roger apologizes to Vicki, admitting that he reacted strangely to his dream. She says she's not angry about his dream, but about what he said about Jeff. Roger apologizes again and she forgives him. She asks if he heard about Barnabas, and he asks her if there has been any news.

In the woods, Barnabas calls to Vicki.

Vicki tells Roger that Barnabas may be in danger. She excuses herself and leaves.

Vicki finds Barnabas unconscious in the woods. He wakes, and he tells her it's too late. She cries that it can't be.

Our thoughts

John: What's Vicki doing up at 2:30 in the morning? Of course, with Roger and Julia wandering about, Collinwood does seem like Grand Central Station...

Christine: I was also wondering why she was still fully dressed and hanging out in the foyer. Julia told Vicki she left the Old House at midnight, yet she didn't get in until 2:30. Was she out driving around, calling Barnabas' name out the window? Or was she cruising the Eagle Hill Cemetery mausoleums for two and a half hours in hopes of scaring him up out of the vampire's lair?

John: I think if we review the tape, we'll find numerous instances of Angelique declaring her unabashed hatred of Barnabas Collins. Why would she change her tune, now that she's got him trapped in her web?

Christine: In spite of what she is, she's still a woman, John. She thinks and feels like a woman. She's hated things he's done, but never hated him himself, according to her. She still clings to the memory of their magical night together in Martinique when Barnabas pledged a part of himself that she is apparently unable to forget and continues to long for.

John: So why exactly does Barnabas suddenly have a psychic hot-line connection to Vicki?

Christine: I can't answer that. I am still trying to work out his logic in going to her because he thought Angelique wouldn't suspect he'd risk involving her since he loves her so much, so he decided to risk her life by involving her.
