Jeff waits for Vicki in the main house.

Adam watches as Barnabas says goodnight to Vicki at the old house.

On her way back through the woods, Vicki encounters Adam. She asks how he got there, and he tells her that she will help him. She screams and passes out, and he picks her up and carries her back towards the old house.

Jeff smokes another cigarette while waiting for Vicki to return. Carolyn sees him and he explains he's been waiting for Vicki to return from the old house for two hours. He says he's going to go looking for her, and when she offers to show him the way to the old house, he says he knows. When she asks if he's been there before he admits he hasn't, and makes up a lame excuse.

Adam brings Vicki back to his room in the main house. She wakes and asks him where she is. She explains that she's been there before, and she recognizes the West Wing. She says she has a right to know why he brought her there. Adam says he saw her kissing the man by the fountain. She asks if she's ever done anything to hurt him. He explains he didn't bring her there to hurt her. He says he needs her help, and she doesn't need to be frightened. He tells her he'll let her go when he gets what he wants. But if she screams for help or tries to run away, he'll kill her.

Jeff shows up at the old house looking for Vicki. When Barnabas opens the door, Jeff forces his way past him. Barnabas explains that Vicki already returned to Collinwood, almost an hour earlier. Jeff says he would have seen her on the way, and Barnabas asks what he's implying. Barnabas realizes that Adam may be responsible. Barnabas tells him that they're both to blame—neither of them should have let her walk in the woods alone. Jeff asks if Barnabas knows something he doesn't, and Barnabas says that's nonsense.

Jeff and Barnabas search for Vicki. Barnabas suggests that they split up.

In the drawing room, Carolyn is writing a letter when there's a knock at the door. She answers it for Barnabas. He asks her where Adam is hiding, explaining it's imperative he speak with him. She denies knowing where he is, and Barnabas tells her that Vicki's life may be in danger. She asks if he thinks Adam had something to do with it, and Barnabas says he is certain that's a possibility. He says Adam came by the old house and she started to say that was impossible. He notices her surprise, and Barnabas claims that she and Stokes have been protecting him. She asks why Adam came to the old house. He says he can't tell her why. He says if she's concerned about Vicki, she needs to tell him where Adam is, and hope that he hasn't harmed her. She says she doesn't know where he is hiding. Barnabas tells her if Adam does anything to Vicki, she will be held responsible. Barnabas leaves and Carolyn rushes upstairs.

Carolyn sneaks into the West Wing, and makes her way to Adam's room. She knocks on the door, and asks for Adam. He opens the door, and he says he wasn't expecting her. She asks if he would lie to her, and he says he has never done that. She asks him if he left his room this evening, and Adam says he left to get a book. She asks if he left Collinwood, and Adam says no. She asks if he went to see Barnabas, and he says no. She says she wants to believe him, but Barnabas told her he did. Adam calls him a liar, and she asks why he would lie. She asks if there's a reason why he hasn't invited her into his room. He does, and she enters.

Inside, she asks him if he knows who Vicki is. He says she was one of two women who came to see him in jail. She asks if he's seen her since then, and he says no. He's upset she doesn't trust him. She apologizes, and says she's happy to know it isn't true. He says he's always happy when she comes to see him.

She excuses herself, and she says she'll bring him breakfast in the morning. After he locks the door, he goes to the closet door, behind which he has Vicki tied up and gagged.

Our thoughts

John: First off - let's all wish a Happy Dark Shadows Birthday to Christine! Now - how exactly does Adam sneak into the house carrying Vicki without anyone noticing? He obviously didn't come in the front door.

Christine: That is a good question. You'd think nosy Mrs. Johnson would hear him stomping around even without Vicki. It's not like he's a little guy. He nearly knocked over one of the trees in Collinwood forest when he was lifting her up. Glad to see that Carolyn's all dressed up for my special occasion in her hallucinogenic Ohrbach's mini dress. Wow! That one really burns the retinas. Maybe she thinks it will ward off Adam's advances. Are we to believe that Jeff Clark sat around in the foyer smoking for two hours while waiting for Vicki? Not only that, but he still expects to take Vicki out on a date at 11:30?

John: I like how Jeff could almost hear Barnabas' voice-over thoughts about Adam. I was prepared for him to take a swing at Barnabas the way he stormed in on him. It's like he was expecting to find the two of them making out in the old house.

Christine: It was interesting that he would act so suspicious of Barnabas. It seems his knowing the path to the Old House without ever being there was another indication that he's really Peter Bradford, so could it be that part of him suspects that Barnabas is the same person Vicki knew in 1795?

John: Poor Adam, no longer the misunderstood gentle creature... now he's a liar and a kidnapper. That's what hanging out with Nicholas Blair for a few days will do to you.

Christine: Poor Vicki finds herself locked in the West Wing again. Just because she hardly ever works doesn't mean it's easy being governess at Collinwood.

  1. How can Barnabas of all people, take the moral high ground on Carolyn?! Just because he isn't a vampire anymore doesn't excuse him for the things he did.
