Tony Peterson comes to see Cassandra about Dr. Lang. He says he doesn't know how or why, but he thinks she had something to do with his death. From the other room, they hear David calling for his father.

David asks Mrs. Johnson why his father didn't pick him up from the train station. Roger comes downstairs and tells Mrs. Johnson to get Cassandra.

Tony asks if Cassandra has anything to say about being accused of murder. She tells him to wait in the gazebo. In a trance like state, he leaves. Mrs. Johnson comes in and tells her Roger and David are waiting for her in the drawing room. As Cassandra freshens up, she asks if Mrs. Johnson feels alright. She says she feels normal. Cassandra is surprised. She leaves, and Mrs. Johnson checks herself in the mirror.

Roger tells David that his new mother Cassandra is quite a bit younger than he is. He asks if David is disappointed or angry, and David replies that if his father is happy, he is happy. Cassandra enters and says hello to David. He doesn't say anything to her. She says she'll do her best for them to become good friends if he does the same. She says that the two of them will have plenty of time to get acquainted, and leaves the two of them to talk.

Roger tells David he's disappointed in him. Roger says David will love Cassandra as much as he does if he gives her a chance. Roger suggests that David go outside and play.

Tony smokes in the garden while waiting for Cassandra. She appears and asks how he thinks she could be responsible for Lang's death. He says he was Lang's lawyer for six months. When he went to his home to get some papers, he recalled being there a few days ago—having gone there to get something she wanted badly. A medallion. She asks if he thinks he did those things against his will for her, and he says he does.

She tells him to look deeply into her eyes. She makes him sit down, and tells him that he's going to help her again. She says Julia is trying to prevent the dream curse from reaching its intended victim. She doesn't want him to do anything to her, she just wants him to find out why she's resisting the dream curse. She then tells him to forget everything around Dr. Lang's death, and wakes him up from his trance. Tony tells her that since she's a married woman, they shouldn't be meeting like this. He doesn't understand the strange effect she has on him. She tells him that he's falling in love with her. They kiss each other as David walks up and sees them.

Cassandra returns to the house and looks at Barnabas' portrait. Roger comes out and asks if she enjoyed her stroll. She asks how his talk with David went. He says they didn't talk much, and then says they should go pack to leave for their honeymoon tomorrow. Cassandra is reluctant, and he tells her David can survive for a month without them. She sends him upstairs, saying she'll pack her bags after dinner.

She sits by the fire in the drawing room. Mrs. Johnson comes in and asks where David is. Cassandra says she was out walking and didn't see him. She then asks Mrs. Johnson if she saw Julia today, and if she told her anything. Mrs. Johnson says she did see her, and then she went to Dr. Lang's. Cassandra asks why she did that, and Mrs. Johnson explains that she doesn't know why people do what they do. Cassandra then asks if she has dreams, and Mrs. Johnson says she's much too busy to have dreams, and excuses herself to prepare dinner.

David comes in and startles Cassandra. He says he wants to talk to her. He says he was in the Gazebo when she and Mr. Peterson were there, and he's going to tell his father that he saw her kissing Mr. Peterson. She denies it, and he tells her that she doesn't love his father, and he's going to tell him. She asks how he'll do that if he can't speak.

She casts a spell on him, rendering him speechless. She tells him to sit down and then calls for Roger.

She says David can't speak. Roger brings him a pad and pencil and tells him to write down what happened. Cassandra encourages him, too, but he drops the pencil. Roger takes him upstairs to call the doctor. Roger tells Cassandra that until they know what's going on, they'll have to cancel their plans.

Our thoughts

John: So our old pal, Tony 'Humprey Bogart' Peterson is back on the case. But why would he confront Cassandra if he was suspicious. You'd think a lawyer would be more inclined to go to the police...

Christine: Or at least work on Carolyn for information. I wonder why Cassandra is having a little fun with him, knowing that someone is sure to see them smooching in the garden. I guess she figures she can always render them speechless and/or make them forget or essentially do anything she wants.

John: Sure enough, it looks like David was off on his own in Boston for the past week or so! I guess they figured it's not like he could get in much more trouble than if he were at home...
 
Christine: Remember back in the early days when David was trying to kill Roger and Roger was claiming that Burke Devlin was David's biological father? Sometimes I miss diabolical David. Who can blame him when his dad keeps hooking up with ladies who want to do him harm. First his mother tried to burn him alive and now he's been saddled with an evil stepmother.

John: Too bad Vicki seems too busy to be teaching David. If he only knew how to write, he could have communicated what he saw to his father...

Christine: While Vicki is not the most proficient educator, I believe David was unable to write because Cassandra was preventing him from doing so. Or were you being sarcastic? Sometimes I'm not so sure. It's interesting that Cassandra knows whose turn it is to pass on the dream and is concerned that Mrs. Johnson hasn't had it yet.
