Angelique stands next to a casket in Barnabas' room. Joshua enters and says men are coming for it. Angelique asks if there will even be a service. She says she won't let him take her husband away. Joshua says he must be buried tonight. Angelique says he can have the body in the morning. Joshua says he will tell everyone that Barnabas went away to England in the morning. He says then he will deal with her. He leaves, and Angelique calls to Ben.
In the old house, the Countess reads Vicki's book. She wonders if Vicki's story could be true, or if the book is the Devil's work. Josette walks in on her. The Countess asks about Naomi, and Josette says she's sleeping. Josette says neither she nor Naomi will ever forget Barnabas. She asks the Countess why she won't admit that she believes what's in the book. The Countess says she'll pack tonight so they can leave in the morning. Josette says she promised Barnabas that she would stay, as he promised to come back to her. She doesn't know how, but she's sure he will. The Countess asks if the rest of her life will be spent in Collinwood, and Josette says yes.
Two men carry the casket out of the house. Joshua apologizes that Josette had to see the casket. He tells them to return to the new house. Ben peers in through the window. Josette says she must know where Barnabas is being buried, and then she sees the face in the window. Joshua says it's nothing. He escorts the two of them out. Ben sneaks in, and runs into Joshua coming back into the house. Joshua tells Ben that Barnabas is dead. Ben says they were friends, and he should be allowed to grieve. Angelique comes downstairs and says Ben was Barnabas' friend. Joshua leaves them alone in the house. Ben asks how Barnabas died. Angelique says that she needs his help. He needs to follow Joshua to find where Barnabas is. She says he needs to then fashion a foot-long stake from the trunk of a holly tree.
Angelique tells Joshua that he must treat Ben as Barnabas would like. She says he can stay under her employment. He asks if she plans to stay, and she says she thinks she will be very happy there. He says there is another solution. He offers her $10,000, and she points out he offered her that before she married Barnabas. Joshua raises his offer to $15,000, and then $20,000. He says he has papers guaranteeing her the money, and also requiring that she leave immediately. She tells him to leave her with the paperwork, and he does. She signs the agreement after he's gone. Ben enters and offers her the stake he made. He asks her what it's for. She tells him to have a carriage ready just after nightfall.
Ben watches while Angelique packs, and asks how he died. She says he was bitten by a bat. Ben says she made it happen. She explains that Barnabas had shot her. She says that she thought he had killed her, so she cursed him, and now he will return after dark every night. She says the only thing she can do is drive the stake through his heart. She tells him to take her to Barnabas.
Ben leads her into the secret room in the Collins' Family Crypt. She has a mallet and the stake. She asks if Ben knows the term vampire.
He closes the secret door, leaving her in the room with the casket. She opens it and prepares to drive the stake through his heart.
Our thoughts
John: While I understand the old house having spare caskets after Barnabas' return, where did they get one so quickly in 1795?
Christine: Maybe they got two for the price of one when they purchased Jeremiah's. I'm wondering who is buried in the green coffins in the mausoleum.
John: Angelique needs Ben to do three things, but only tells him two. What's the third thing, Angelique???
Christine: #1, follow Joshua to find out where Barnabas is being buried. #2, cut down a holly tree. #3, make a needle sharp stake. I like how Ben locked her in the secret room after she asked him to open the casket. Of course, she can just make him come back to open the door and let her out, provided Barnabas doesn't put the bite on her first.
John: Finally! After 410 episodes, the V-word has finally been spoken. And while Barnabas is looking particularly pasty, it seems pretty safe to assume that Angelique will not be successful in her mission.
Christine: Angelique is truly terrified. It must be because Barnabas will be even more powerful than she is now. Can't wait to see what happens when he wakes as a vampire for the first time next week.
Another fantastic episode! The cast is really firing on all cylinders now. This is Dark Shadows at its best.
ReplyDeleteWell, Angelique has learned from the ghost of Jeremiah that she has a lot of difficulty controlling the undead and Barnabas is going to be one pissed off vampire!
