Joe stops by to see Maggie. She asks if they found David, and he says no. She says her father is out with another search party. Joe is beginning to believe there may be something supernatural at play. First Maggie's abduction, Sarah's occasional appearances, and now David's disappearance. Joe blames himself for David sneaking out, and Maggie tells him it's not his fault.

Dr. Woodard shows up. Joe asks Maggie to tell Woodard what Hoffman does when she comes to visit her, and Maggie describes how Hoffman only checks her vitals. Woodard is surprised that she's not asking about her old memories. Joe then adds that he and Sam found her alone at Barnabas Collins' house. Barnabas wasn't even there, so he wants to know who she was trying to convince that she was a historian. He says that he thinks she's keeping secrets, and unless she says what she's up to, they don't want her to have access to Maggie any more. He then points out that only a few people have seen Sarah, and how she randomly appears and disappears. Maggie said she recently left her doll. Woodard asks if he can borrow it. He thinks it might lead them closer to the truth.

Willie walks onto the woods set (look closely and you'll see the backdrops on the left at the start of the shot).

He first hears and then sees Sarah. He says everybody's been looking for her, including Barnabas. She says she's been looking for him, too. Willie says he'll take her to his house so she can see him. She says she can't. She needs to look for someone who's lost. Willie asks if she knows where he is. She says she doesn't know, but he's scared and he needs her. Willie asks if they're good friends. She says yes. He asks what kind of things they share. She tells him that she tells David secrets. She says she just told him a big secret. Willie asks what it was, and she gets abrasive. She doesn't want him to keep asking questions. He tries to get her to come back to the old house with him and she disappears.

Julia is in the drawing room when Willie arrives. He asks her to come with him to the old house. She says she has to stay in case anyone calls. She confirms that no one is home, and they retire to the drawing room. He tells Julia he saw Sarah in the woods. She asks if he let her get away. He explains that he couldn't keep her if he tried. He says she's looking for David. Willie tells Julia that Sarah has been telling David secrets, and if that's true, Barnabas might kill David. He says that she told him she told David the biggest secret of all, which he assumes is Barnabas' secret. Julia realizes that if David finds out the truth about Barnabas, he'll tell everyone, and it will ruin her experiments. Julia tells Willie that he can't tell Barnabas he saw Sarah.

There's another knock at the door, and it's Woodard. To throw Woodard off, she tells Willie to thank Barnabas for the book and he leaves. They retire to the drawing room and Woodard interrogates her, and she says she's not in the mood for an inquisition. He says that Sam and Joe and concerned that she's not doing anything to help Maggie get her memory back. He says that she previously described events around Collinwood as supernatural. He says he thinks she has in fact stumbled across something supernatural, and he thinks he knows what it is: Sarah.

She denies that Sarah was what she was referring to when she brought up the supernatural. He says Sarah is what has him thinking of the supernatural. He hands Julia the doll, and asked if she recognized it. She says it's the doll that Maggie had in the sanitarium. He says he took it to a toy expert, and she told him that a doll like that is an antique. Sarah's doll appears to be brand new, but it's over 150 years old.

Our thoughts

John: Everyone is beginning to think that the supernatural might be possible. That may or may not be true, but I think a more pressing concern is that Joe needs a shave.

Christine: How is it that Sarah doesn't know where David is, when she was the one who took him to the crypt? She was able to pop up at Windcliff to rescue Maggie, so how is it she can't do the same for David? She's really not a very realiable ghost friend.

John: So suddenly leaving Maggie alone is not a problem? Particularly when someone else has disappeared? They've certainly changed their tune in the last few days if that's the case.

Christine: It seemed that Sarah was finally going to meet up with Barnabas, who she says she'd like to see. If she wants to see him so badly, why can't she find him as easily as she finds everyone else? It's not like she only flits around during the day.

John: I love how Woodard always acts so surprised when people reiterate strange behavior or phenomena to him that he's heard a dozen times before. While he thinks he's laid out proof of Sarah's supernatural heritage, I think we all know that the odds are good that Julia will be able to talk him out of that, too.

Christine: I find it odd that Woodard continues to defend Julia. He should be advising Sam and Joe to drop her, and refer them to someone else. Julia is so focused on her experiments on Barnabas that she doesn't realize that she's about to lose access to Maggie, and won't be able to continue to wipe her memory. That's going to be a problem.
