Dark Shadows Episode 312 - 9/5/67

As Barnabas consoles Vicki about David, He finds himself about to bite her neck when Carolyn calls her.

She and Joe say that haven't had any luck finding him. Barnabas offers his assistance. Joe says it's his fault for suggesting David help find a little girl named Sarah. Barnabas refers to her as David's imaginary playmate. Joe says he thinks she's real. She showed up to Sam and told him where to find Maggie, so they think she might know more. He says that David said he could find Sarah in a secret place where they played. Joe goes to call the sheriff, and Carolyn says she should wake the rest of the family. She asks Barnabas' opinion only to find that he left without saying goodbye to them.

Back in the old house, Barnabas calls for Willie. Willie says he hasn't seen David in several days. Barnabas thinks David might know where to find Sarah. Willie asks what will happen if they find David and he knows too much. Barnabas says he'll do what he has to, once he determines how much David knows.

The sheriff arrives at Collinwood, and asks for information about David. He asks if they think he might have been kidnapped. Joe says they've searched everywhere on the property except inside the old house. Vicki recalls seeing the little girl at the top of the stairs the night of the party. Joe thinks that might be the secret place where they were playing. The sheriff suggests that it seems worth checking out, so he and Joe head to the old house.

Barnabas tells Willie to come with him when there's a knock at the door. Barnabas answers the door and the sheriff tells him that they'd like to look around the house for David. Joe says he thinks that David is hiding looking for Sarah. Willie is sure that David wouldn't be there. Joe says he thinks David and Sarah may have been sneaking into the house. Barnabas allows them to search the house, with Joe going upstairs and the sheriff checking the back. While they search. Willie expresses concern that they might search the basement.

The sound of a rooster signals the coming dawn. The sheriff and Joe complete their search without finding David. The sheriff says he's checked everything but the basement, which was locked. Joe suggests they should check that, too. The sheriff asks for the key, and Barnabas says that he lost it. Joe offers to break the door down. Barnabas gets rather antsy. Before they press him, Carolyn runs in saying that someone saw a boy matching David's description. The sheriff invites Barnabas to join them, and he respectfully declines.

Barnabas tells Willie to find David and bring him to him.

Our thoughts

John: When his biting of Vicki was interrupted (I lost the bet—I was sure it would have been Julia), he steps out of the picture, I assume to remove those fangs. I have to admit, I was surprised to see him relapse when it had seemed like Dr. Hoffman's treatment was having a positive effect on him.

Barnabas goes to a secluded area of the garden to make himself presentable.

Christine: It seems the moonlight and the sweet embrace of Vicki Winters was a little too much for him to handle. It's the best fang shot we've seen yet. Here are a few other times the fangs have come out:

John: Nice to see Dana Elcar as the sheriff again. Not exactly steady work, but at least they haven't had to replace him, too!

Christine: Don't speak too soon.

John: The sheriff and Joe really had Barnabas on the ropes today! Fortunately for him, Carolyn arrived just in time.

Christine: Barnabas should be aware of the Fourth Amendment since it was ratified during his lifetime. He should not have consented to a search without a warrant. Speaking of legalities, how come Sheriff Patterson can't round up one of his deputies to help perform the search, rather than enlisting a civilian to help–especially one who's a little overeager to bust down doors.
